What could make my 97 Honda Civic Ex hesitate at low RPMs?? Or when i let off the gas it hesitates.... at first it done it about once a month and i would turn the car off for like 10 seconds and it would stop doing it.....Now it does this constantly....i replaced the fuel filter today but that wasnt it.....it does this real bad in first and second gear like it isnt getting enough fuel to it or something....could this be the plug wires>???? or what i also put all new plugs in it today....NEED HELP>.....thank you....I really cant fully explain how it acts in words....

You could try the small thing like the plugs, but im thinking the o2 sensor. Is it sputtering?

 

Yea Like its not getting enough gas to it but it does it the worse in first and second gears at low rpm's.....

worst case scenario , the gears have worn down and are slipping, happened in my 00 EX

idle air control valve = iacv

if it is automatic it will be under your throttle body, if it is a 5 speed it is the cylendrical looking thing right behind your intake manifold.

check engine light = cel

now for this part, i really hope you already know.

 

Ok yea it is a 5 speed....and the check engine light is on has been on since i got the car but i have a exhaust system on it and aftermarket headers so i figured that was causing the check engine light to be on....if it is the idle control air valve how much does them normally cost to repair??

 

changing the exhaust wont make the cel come on unless they left an o2 sensor off. take it to autozone or advance and have them check to see what the cel codes are for.
