Whats the widest wheel/tire size you can use on your EF?
The 3 bodies vary. other than the rubbing you have to consider the fact you will be throwing your speedometer off, either you will be going faster by a few miles or slower.I just stick with the 205/50r15 on si's.you can put a 215/45r16 but there is a def. chance it will rub on turns, i get bored at work and check on clearance at work, we use a comparator from the stock size to the new size some one wants, it shows if it is over 3% change from the stock and thats usually not safe being i've seen some where the speedometer is going 10 mph faster than the actual speed.

I'm thinking you miss read the OP. Wider never messes up the speedo. Only diameter matters when speedo conversations arise.

I have an 89 Si hatch and I like the idea of being able to use a 215/45/16. I don't think it would throw the over all diameter off too much. Plus, this wheel size would allow for a big brake upgrade as well. Now I just have to find that perfect wheel/tire set for it

But as the diameter is in direct proportion to the width, i'd say its an important measurement nonetheless. It's impossible to find two different tires in the same size that are ACTUALLY the same size. what they put on the sidewall is irrelevant, its just a ballpark estimation. True rolling diameter and tire size can only be gauged when a tire is mounted and inflated.

I mean it is only my job for over the past two years, I work for Costco, we just dont throw random sizes on vehichles, we are very strict on making sure it is safe and compatible on the car the member brings in, we are certified by Michelin and follow very strict guide lines being peoples life's are at stake no matter how you look at it.so thank you ComeOnKip for seeing what I was stating

Would a 205/45/16 be OK on a 91 hatch? I don't really want to go as low as a 205/40/16 but that's what Tire Rack is recommending. It just seems like too little sidewall...
