Default Wing Talk

Yea its been covered , but whatever

thinking of a carbon hatch , and for my stock hatch get some kind of different wing ,
perhaps a gen 1 mugen (yea right , not with ALL YOU vultures )but what wings use stock mounting holes , ive seen a topic covered on the j's racing , and i believe that it uses stock holes , what about the mugen 1 and 2 ? and are there others as well that im not remembering?
and ill post pics tomorrow after a nice wash ,
and can yall post pics of yer wingless ITR's , and somewith wings that mount in the stock location .

ok so something in this post has to be new , so there

oh and i did the same dumb crap alot of people do , hit the threads , and like an ignorant moron , i hit 3 before i stopped , so if i go back to stock im gonna need a wing ,

The Mugen Gen 1 and 2 use the stock holes. Not sure about the J's racing. Please don't go wingless. Keep the stock wing or go for a Gen 1, they look best IMO.

You're free to think what ever you like, however, plenty of cars have wings. Terribly inefficient wings, but wings none the less.

No... I think not my friend...

A wing is a surface used to produce lift and therefore flight, for travel in the air or another gaseous medium. The wing shape is usually an airfoil. The first use of the word was for the foremost limbs of birds, but has been extended to include the wings of insects, bats and pterosaurs and also man-made devices.

A wing is a device for generating lift. Its aerodynamic quality is expressed as a Lift-to-drag ratio. The lift generated by a wing at a given speed and angle of attack can be 1-2 orders of magnitude greater then the drag. This means that a significantly smaller thrust force can be applied to propel the wing through the air in order to obtain a specified lift.

A spoiler is an automotive aerodynamic device whose intended design function is to 'spoil' unfavorable air movement across a body of a vehicle of some kind in motion. This can result in improved vehicle stability by decreasing lift that may cause unpredictable handling in a car at speed. Spoilers are often fitted to race and high-performance sports cars, although they have become common on passenger vehicles, as well. Some spoilers are added to cars primarily for styling purposes and have either little aerodynamic benefit or even make the aerodynamics worse.

Spoilers for automobiles are often incorrectly confused with wings

All taken from Wikipedia... though HT wrote that site too... so...

Yeah, because wikipedia is the authority on science. Let me quote a couple of the more relevant comments from your article
"A wing is a surface used to produce lift" and "A wing is a device for generating lift"

A wing doesn't have to produce flight to be considered a wing, it just has to create lift. Flight is a by-product of the wings function, and so is downforce if you flip the wing upside down. A spoiler and a wing are two different things and both are used on cars.

You can bank my two aerospace engineering degrees on that. KTHXBYE

My point is, even if the design can be "flipped" upside down to make another design, those 2 designs are still not the same thing, and don't serve the same function.

Wing = Lift

Spoiler = Downforce or direction of air flow

Sure would suck on track when you really needed some traction out back, yet it took off the ground soaring towards the sky... \

Anyway... Jared, back on topic...

Pic yourself a new spoiler. Something nobody on here has. That's my vote!!!

Lift is just a name representing a force. Whether the force is up or down, it's still the same force. Downforce and Lift are the same thing whose name represents direction. And, you're right, a spoiler and a wing are not the same thing, and do not serve the same function. A car can have a spoiler or a wing, or both.

In what sense would a car want lift?

The only, really odd example I can think of is if the aero of the car itself minus spoiler (or in this case wing) provided to much down force (spoiling?) and thus you wanted some lift?

Other than that, why in the world would you want a car, that is ment to be on the ground to have lift?
