Roadracers please give feedback: ITR LSD or KAAZ, etc, clutch type, and WHY
I'm looking for feedback, pros and cons, of staying with the ITR LASD in my CRX racecar, or going with a KAAZ or other clutch type. I've spoken to a few racers, would like to hear other opinions. I don't want to do anything that will increase underster on initial turn-in, even at the benefit of increased exit speed. Thanks!
I don't know whether this will help your situation or not...
When we first started Running our #65 K-20 Powered Integra using the JDM Type R LSD and a JDM OEM 5.06 Final Drive. We had no real problems as the engine was all stock and it only ran in NASA for a while... However when we started running in the SCCA Honda Cup series with close to 270hp, our Driver Tom Lepper said that he thought the car was suffering from Horsepower induced understeer... On certain tracks the front would push quite badly although the LSD was in perfect condition. I drove the car only a couple of times and I did not really think there was that much of a problem.
However, we put a new CUSCO LSD in the car When we swapped over to the GEAR-X 5.46 Final drive. Immediately we both noticed a huge change! The car turns into the corners perfectly and pulls like a train coming out! Very neutural, CUSCO
I'm about to put a New CUSCO in my #66 K-24 Powered JDM ITR which is probably making a good 300hp and is running our Prototype GEAR-X Straight Cut 6 spd. Close Ratio Gearbox... You will all be able to read about that soon.
I believe our GEAR-X Distributor - GearSpeed will be doing a feature for one of the magazines soon. Should be a good launch for the newly rebuilt car.
Personally I would go for the Cusco or Kaaz- I had a Kaaz when I was running the 2.0L B18 C Motor in my car. A lot better than the OEM Type R Diff but it only became necessary when we started making big power. If you are just running a basic B16A or B18 in your CRX, the OEM Diff could be just fine.

this is the kind of info i love, a lot of times i get information on the road racing forum and i never know if these guys who are recommending kaaz and quaife lsd's are making 200+whp when ive got my stock gsr motor. i plan on getting the ITR anyways just to stay oem

Thansk for the info.. the CRX is putting down close to 220 tot he wheels, with 150 torque...at 2250 with driver, so, yes, I have to be careful with the throttle. Good info.
Well, I'm running a stock LS motor with bolt ons and the KAAZ made a huge difference for both auto-x and track days. I also have a B16A powered Civic street car with the ITR LSD and the KAAZ is just worlds better than the ITR LSD. Even though wheelspin wasn't much of a problem for me in the LS I can now get on the power much harder and much earlier without any understeer. The KAAZ is a little annoying on the street...I wouldn't want it in a daily driver, which the Civic is...but for a dedicated race car it is brilliant!
