2008 Comp4 Class Idea..
So there has been some discussion on a previous thread about an idea I brought to the attention of others and it was given mixed responses. I'd like to know others ideas and comments about the class idea and how to go about it being governed.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Victor Vaughn »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Maybe this is a long shot coming but, I'd like to see a push for a pump gas comp4 class or maybe a mix between Comp4/street stock and by mixture I mean those in comp4 trim are limited to lower octane level as high a 93 grade & a new lighter weight limit and those in street stock trim be allowed to run higher octanes.

ehhhh kind of a good concept but logistically would be a headache for tech guys as well as competitors. plain and simple its just not going to work man.

Dude youre beating a dead horse...its not going to happen.NOPI isnt even sure if they will have the class, you think they need to worry about checking for octane at the end of every pass for every racer? If you car doesnt fit into a class either make it fit or run brackets.Coming up with all kinds of ideas to make your car fit into a class and be competitive just isnt going to work.Thats what bracket classes are for.
these are the same reply's that were in the other thread lol

You want a Comp4 style class to have limited octane available so therefor it limits power as well.
But you want a street stock class to have higher octane therefore being able to run higher compression ie: more power attainable.
So with that said you want a class that allows slicks , open exhaust to be limited to lets say 93 octane but then a class that mandates full exhaust, weight limits and drag radials to potentially to have more power? Not sure that makes sense bro.
Comp4 originally went away for a reason- not enough participants. Street stock never really took off ( IMO) because of the radials and now you are talking about having BOTH ? See the point we are trying to make?
</TD></TR></TABLE>
In concept it may be a good idea but it would just be a nightmare for officials.

If you really want to race in Comp then show up first. Perhaps then you can get concessions to make your setup a little more competitive through weight breaks, etc.

Obviously NOPI has comp4 in its thoughts since Glenn posted "comp4 announcement to be released shortly" also if NOPI/NHRA officials didn't check cars in the first place we wouldn't have people following rules "LightWeight Tim". As 2fastGSR said it will make more work for officials, it would just be another part of their job. Also this idea has nothing to do with helping me in my own personal situation, I strongly believe this idea would be a great competitive class and would be able to fill in an 8 car ladder with ease which both classes could barely fill over the years. I also strongly believe racers such as yourself fear change due to your own benefit. This Idea can work but others have to speak up as well with more ideas.
Or maybe your just afraid because you don't know how to make power on 93?

really? your talking **** about a guy that runs 10's in comp4 trim??? ya i am sure he knows nothing.
there is NO WAY to measure octane at the track in sufficient time to run a race, and would be costly to the race organizers

First off nobody is taking away anything from Tim, he has put together and drives a serious all motor machine but I wouldn't be as fast to say he ran in comp4 trim but his car is N/A so that alone gets the atta boy. Secondly Like I brought up in the previous thread, Domestic sanctions that actually do run 93 pump gas at their events have their own method and I'm sure our sport compact sanctions would be able to provide it also with some research.
What better way would you folks like to see sponsors involved in a class where cars using 93 pump gas running amazing times with their products, how much more advertizement could a sponsor ask for? you guys really ought to put your thinking caps on before being so quick to dismiss an idea and figure out so methods to make it work. I'm not saying my idea will work as originally thought of but, with more ideas and such input combined this could be a new birth of a much needed/wanted N/A sportsman class.

I really don't see a need for any handicaps for cars with smaller displacement, with the technology, products, and knowledge around today I see no reason why a B-series powered comp4 trim car wouldn't be able to reach the 10.5xx mark. Everyone just has to step up and put forth instead of bickering about who's faster because they run a bigger displaced K. People didn't complain as much when Howard Shoaff, Charlie from car doctor, or Richie Gibson were kicking *** with B-series engines but when Saul Salceda came along with a bigger H-series the contraversy was on full force.

you keep saying they have a method...show us the method you should easily be able to go on a website where they run "93 octane" drag races and the rules will state the type of gas allowed and i guess would tell us the octane allowed and how they will determine that.
why not do that then come back here and tell us "see here it is" then your done we can't argue...

If any class was going to be brought back, changed, or new regulations, it would have happened by now.
Any chance of adding, changing a class, or having anyone that actually works for a sanctioning body listen are long gone. Nothing would even be considered until the end of the 2008 season. Especially after what happened to Nopi/NHRA this past year, they still need to see how 2008 does/doesn't work out.
Best bet for protest on anything at this point would "maybe" be a mid-season change with a regulation, weight break, etc., etc.

first of all what the hell does the "ligthweight tim" mean?i have always made weight for every event that required me to and i have done well while at those weights.Ofcourse events that dont have a weight requirement i get my car light as possible. Is there something wrong with that? You make it sound as if i am cheating the rules.I also belive this season if they bring back comp4 we will not have a problem getting 8 cars to race...there are a lot of competitors coming out this season with some very nice set ups.And for your information i made 248hp@171tq. on a 2.0L bseries with 93 octane when i used to street drive my car and had no other choice but to use 93octane.Also went 11.6's with it so dont say i dont know how to make power with 93octane.My car will do 10's in comp4 trim. And i dont fear change to benfit myself i fear change to slowing a class down.Every year the classes should be getting faster instead we have people complaining tryin to slow them down. This isnt progress to me

ok LOL these are cars with fuel cells, back halfs, is that what you want in street stock? this is a one day event "unique" as they say on that quote.
really, there are many 1 time events that have very specific rules , but nopi/nhra is a race series with a class that deals with cars with gas tanks and real street cars. i can't find rules for one day events that will make you laugh, i thought you were gonna find some sanctioned race series..
also i just read its Rockett Brand 93-octane spec gasoline.
where can i pull up to a gas station and get rockett-brand fuel?? since rockett is race gas...vp sells similar product with similar octane i wouldn't consider that pump gas....
also this is a one class one day one event, if comp4 was 75 cars big and the only class nhra had i think they could do it...

It all comes down to weight. If there arent some sort of restrictions on higher displacement motor's then there will be a select few, maybe just one, who will run away from everyone else. Competitive, side-by-side racing is where its at in my opinion, and the only way to get it to that point is with weight restrictions.

instead of talking about making up rules how about race a car, its people like me who keep this sport alive , its people like you who post sugestions on how a race series should do things , but then they never race themselves. those people hurt the sport.
now you said pump gas yet you posted a link to a 1 day event that uses race gas that happens to be 93 octane ......
you keep trying to prove a point when you proved yourself wrong...you posted a link to a 1 day event that has 1 class and uses race gas that happens to be 93 octane ( spec fuel).
from the way you are talking its quite obvious that you have never raced a nhra or nopi event, be it domestic or sportcompact. when you have many classes of cars you can only have rules that you can enforce. there is only so much time during the day to race. with weather problems and oil downs or accidents, there are alot of days when not all of the racing gets done.
