Default Autocrossing in DFW area, Texas

Hey, I have been reading things on autocross and it always sounded like something I would really enjoy. A few months ago I sold my old 4-door and got my 2000 Si, choosing a car I though would make a good autocrosser. I really want to get involved, but don't know where to go. I live in Arlington, Texas and there has got to be autocrossing in my area, I wanna go.
So far the only mod on my car are my Koni yellows, are there strict rules about staying in an amatuer level?? Well, anybody from DFW enlighten me

Sean,
Check out these two clubs. They usually race at Pennington Field, which is pretty close to Arlington. The next event up there is July 13-14 (two day event) at Texas Motor Speedway. This event is one of the "Divisionals" so you have to be a member of the SCCA to participate, and no passengers are allowed. So you wouldn't be able to bum a ride off someone. But if you want to come out and just watch, you can do that! More details are on the Texas Region website.

As far as rules go, there's no rules specifying amateur level vs. pro level. Some clubs do offer a Novice class where you will compete only against the other novices. And your car will be put into a certain class depending on your modifications. If you haven't done anything but the shocks, you'd be in Stock class. You could also run in a Tire class if you're using your regular street tires. Just show up at the next event, tell them it's your first time, ask for someone to help you out, and you should be all set.

And once you're hooked, and don't think it's crazy to drive 3 hours for 5 minutes of fun, you can check out the Austin events too!

Sean,
You live in a great area for autox! I'm in Tyler (bad area for autox), so I commute to events in the DFW area. There are so many active clubs doing events that many times they schedule on top of each other. Equipe Rapide, SCCA, PCA, BMW, etc... You could do an event every single weekend without ever driving more than 60 miles (to Mineral Wells).

Besides the Divisional, the next event I'll be at is Pennington Field (right around the corner from you) on July 28. You're also in luck because I've been helping a friend get started this season, and he drives a... 2000 Si. Right now, he's set up for the STS class, and doing pretty well. He still runs in the novice class but it's about time for him to yank that "N" off. His Si is blue, and rolls on gunmetal Rota's with Falken Azenis tires. I'll be in a black 98' hatch (#31 sm) that looks like a rollerskate. Stop by if you see us.

Everyone else pretty much covered what's going on with the Auto-x scene in DFW. If you make it out to the SCCA event on the 28th, drop by and say hi. I'll be in the FBP 2K Si, STS 16.

This is great!!!
I live smack in the middle of DFW, so I am going to try to make some of these events.
What kind of modifications would keep me in the stock class? I already have the Konis, but I am going to get some Comptech springs when I get the money, and eventually I/H/E. (My long term goal for the car is all motor/handling) Are you guys having success running your Si's? Help me decide on some improvments I am going to seriously look into attending some events, so I will keep an eye out for some of you.

The major allowed mods for stock are shocks, front anti-roll bar and everything from the cat back. The wheels has to be stock width and diameter. You can run R compound tires.

If you have the Koni Yellows, the spring pearch has to be set to stock height and the it has to be welded in a fixed position. The reason for this is ride height adjustment is not allowed in stock. Springs are a no-no. Your best bet is STS.

I'm doing fairly well in STS. The class has some VERY good drivers but don't let it discourage you. Come out and have fun, you can worry about points after you get some seat time under your belt.

Maybe I should read over a rulebook, does anybody have a link?
Also, I want to contact some of you when I go to an event, it would be great to know somebody there instead of showing up all by myself and know nobody. Thanks for the replies, I keep reading how increadible and addicting autoX is, I can't wait

Glad to see you're finally on the board Henry.

I'll be out there on the 28th as well. Look for DS 3 Yellow Integra R.
