D15Z1 swap into CRX HF
I found a D15Z1 with a rebuilt head from a CRV with 110,000 miles and for a reasonable price. What would it take to swap this into my '88 CRX HF?
As a D-series motor, it is pretty much a straight drop-in. Just use the driver side bracket from your HF motor, bolt it to your stock transmission, and drop it right in. The only other possible issue is your clutch (if the car is a 1988) If it IS, yu can either bolt the HF clutch and flywheel to the motor, get a 1986-1989 Accord clutch disk to use with the D15Z1 flywheel and pressure plate, or get a 1989-1991 HF transmission to avoi this problem in the future. But using the HF clutch and flywheel is certainly the most economical way to go. Other than this, you have to do an OBDI conversion to use the D15Z1 ECU. The HF ECU and RPM activated switch would probably run the motor. But it would yield substandard MPG and require halfassing the distributer to mount it. This OBDI conversion is a little different than others in the sense that you have to also connect up the wires for the EGR (which are already present in the HF) and five wire oxygen sensor.
