What will you get with your $600?
Congressional leaders announced a deal with the White House Thursday on an economic stimulus package that would give most tax filers refunds. Individuals who pay income taxes would get up to $600, working couples $1,200 and those with children an additional $300 per child under the agreement. Workers who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates. The first rebate payments could begin going out in May, and most people could have them by July.
So what will you get your S with $600?

I haven't read much into this, but I'm still a bit confused. Are they giving us this money on top of our normal tax return? Or as a replacement to our normal tax return?
I'm going to put it towards a hardtop.

this is "in addition to" because the economy is crap due to georgie porgie...i love being an accountant when this crap happens, i've already had 6 people asking me about it
Isn't it more of an issue of the banks giving out loans to people that can't afford mortgages more than the mistakes of George?
If you can't afford your mortgage or the loan that was given to you that means you can't afford to go out shopping to help the economy. Not forgetting to mention the foreclosure of your house and your bank losing out on money. I feel that the rise of gas prices is just an excuse to why the economy is going down, go to Europe and see how you feel about paying for gas over there.
Yet their economy is booming.

How are gas prices in Europe?
As for economy, I heard the nation is actually in a huge debt. Im not exactly clear on it, but the nation keeps borrowing money from the federal reserve or something of that sort.
Atleast we're getting some $$$. back to topic.

Roughly $6 a gallon. (it might actually be a lot more now due to the very weak dollar). The nation has been in a deficit for the longest time now. LOL

Clutch more than likely. I was reading up on it and it seems that it looking like the Senate is going to have a problem passing this. They are also saying that it if it does pass that the checks won't even go out till May.
a waste? lol... not really. I'd rather make memories for a life time (as cheesy as that sounds), than buy some lame *** part for my car that I'll be getting rid of in a few years.

I really want to go to Japan, but only if I can save up atleast $1000 in spending money... Also, congress or who ever really make's decision around here, has passed it.
IMO, this $600 giveaway is going to do nothing but stimulate the economy for the 24 hours after people get it. After that we will be back to square one and a failing economy.
Instead of spending it on goods and products it would be better off invested to turn around and make money. That's just what I think. If I'm getting "free money" I am going to do what I can to turn it into more money.

I think the hope is not that people will go buy alot of bullshit, but pay down a little bit of their debt whether it be cerdit cards or whatever so they have more spendable cash after it.

The whole point is not to save. Why do you think the Fed is cutting rates?
Plus if you think you can invest a measly $600 and make any significant amount of money you must be high off your ***.

I am very skeptical that this will even pass the proposal stage. There are too many conservatives that will vote against this proposal as to avoid putting us into a further debt situation.
Don’t get me wrong, I would love to open my mail box and see a check in there for $600.00. But I won’t be holding my breath.
Just my $0.02.
