how do you know when your clutch is going out?

 

There's two ways to test. Either: go out and drive the car. At about 40 mph, shift into 5th gear and put the gas to the floor. If the clutch is slipping, the engine will rev up disproportionately to your increase in speed. -or- find a large building or wall, a sturdy one. Pull up so your front bumper is just touching it. Put the car in first gear and let the clutch out like you would starting out, don't step on the gas. If the clutch is good the car should die.
