Default '99 Civic Si hard starting for weeks, then threw Code 8 TDC Sensor

My Si is stock except for the bolt-ons, but for the past few weeks it's been taking longer to crank over and start. It has 106k miles on it, everything's original and it's been pampered. I haven't replaced any of the components in the distributor, which I know houses the TDC sensor. I threw a code 8 a couple of days ago and have not cleared the code, trying to find out what is going on. Could a worn cap & rotor be the cause of the hard starting? Could my negligence on looking at it sooner have caused the code 8 to be thrown?

Thanks in advance.

from what i know, TDC has all to do with the timing belt. the only thing i could think of one of the sprockets (i.e. water pump) are begining to seize up and it jumped the belt slightly

oh and for a solution try a compression test or ignition timing test!

I doubt it's a problem with the timing. The car runs fine through all the gears and through the RPM range. Never had a problem before now and have done ZERO mods to the car beyond an intake and catback.

Any other suggestions?

Hey I am having the same problem with my 96 honda with gsr. Its throwing a p1362 or code 8 on the mil flash. I just did a timing belt on mine only 2 years ago and its only got like 20k miles on most of the service items including the rotor/cap/plugs/wires. I checked the sensor signal on the vantage at the computer and dist and its looks fines. I dunno what else to do.

Anyone got any info on this?

Code 8 is indicating a problem with one or more of the three sensors in the distributor housing. If you have access to the downloadable Civic service manual, it details relatively straightforward electrical tests that can be done to troubleshoot the problem. The problem is typically the sensor circuits or the sensors themselves, which if bad require you to replace the distributor housing. By the way, you can get more detailed CEL code information using a scan tool or by taking the car to AutoZone where they will retrieve the code free of charge.
