Default What's the difference between an 88 and 89 HF?

The FAQ says:

88 HF: 1819 lbs
89 HF: 1834 lbs

Does anyone know where that 15 lbs come from?

TIA

LCA = Lower Control Arms
89s had solid steel rear LCAs and the 88s had stamped steel.
89s had door reinforcement bars 88s have none.
other than that I can't think of any differences...

The Honda Parts catalog also shows different part numbers for the complete doors so there may be some weight differences.

Agreed. Add the 1988 HF in there, of course. Personally, I will never understand what people see in SIs, especially the 1990-1991 SI.

your dumb. The interior is much nicer. Some people like quality as well as a fast car. otherwise everyone would be the same, driving around in a gutted 88 hf, noisy as hell. I personally wont by the first or second model year of any cars made on the planet. Also when i seek out a crx or hatch i try to find the newest si with the fewest miles. Its all about priority man, I like the nice interior with mpfi, and rear discs, if its a crx.

Well, I guess that even with superior intellect, some people just can't see certain things. For instance, do you think the carpeting or the seats in the HF look cheap? Guess what? You can go down to the local junkyard and get the stuff from the SI and swap it over - for a song. Don't like the rear drums that all CRXs BUT the 1990-1991 SI has? Well, these swap over, too. MPFI? Honestly, I would MUCH, MUCH rather swap an OBDI motor onto a DPFI car, as the wiring harness is actually routed MUCH more like an OBDI car. Yes, I may have to add a couple more wires. But I would rather do this than have to reroute a bunch of stuff. As for the first two model years of a generation being bad, this isn't GM we are talking about here.

The fact of the matter is that you can make an HF or DX EVERY bit as nice as an SI. It's neither hard nor costly to upgrade pretty much ANYTHING on an HF or DX. In fact, the ONLY thing that cannot be easily upgraded is the SI sunroof. But for everyone out there who considers this to be a MUST, there is at least one person out there who either doesn't care OR would rather not have the weight.

Actually, it's "you're dumb." Spell it with me: y, o, u, ', r, e. If you're going to try and be an idiot in a post, please use correct spelling and grammar.

The interior being much nicer is such an over exaggerated statement. The seats and carpet are less plush, but everything else is blue or black plastic. It's not like a Ford Taurus interior compared to a BMW 3-series. /discussion.

i know that you cant swap an 88 seat to a 89 hf.......well unless your doing a seat pan swap other than that the seat bolts up differently..

There is additional side impact support in the doors.

I have had 1 of each year. I am here to say that IF I could go back and pick 1 of my crx's to keep forever I would have to say it would be the 89 HF I had.
You can say you want this or want that...the fact of the matter is that all the accessories are outdated by 18+ years anyways. The only thing I remember really wanting when I had mine was...hmmmm....the seats, rear discs, and the fog lights. Well guess what..thats the 3 easiest things to swap over.

The sunroof LEAKS!!! end of discussion.
