D16Z6 Upgrade vtec solenoid
Im trying to swap vtec solenoids from either a b series or an h series motor to my d16 i was just wondering if anybody has done it and is it safe to do it
i just wanted the vtec to sound better when it engages or can i bypass it and hook it up to a toggle so i can control when it engages (i know this is possible i just dont know how to)
Are you smarter than a Honda powertrain engineer? If you want to change the way VTEC sounds, get a DOHC motor. VTEC only works on the intake of an SOHC, without the additional overlap & duration on the exhuast side there's not much you can do about it. Making VTEC manual or jacking around with the switch point will only make you lose power or possibly do damage. Upgrade your valvetrain and get a more radical cam, then you will hear it better.

im not saying that man i just wanted to know because the other series engage sooner than 5 grand (i thought) and i know exactly how vtec works at 5000 rpm the solenoid fills with oil causing all three rockers to lock togeter giving you better performance at higher rpm's basically.
so how can i bypass it so that i can control when it engages

i think the vtec soleniod is interchangable with most other vtec motors... but there is no difference... anyways the vtec crossover point is controlled by your ecu... and the point is set accordingly with the respective motors for best performance...

Buy a VTEC controller. Thats definitely a start.

LoL!
I agree.
@ OP:
They all engage the same, you can't "swap it out" for a "better one" to "upgrade" your car's VTEC. The solenoid is simply a switch which switches between low RPM lobes and high RPM lobes on the camshaft(s).
So no you can't upgrade it.

You guys are expletiveing lame.
The guy is obviously expletiveing around or needs some Honda-schooling. You can't act like you were never a N--B b4 either. Answer the man's expletiveing question and get on with your life.
A B/F/H/K-series Vtec Solenoid is not compatible with a D-series engine. Some parts may change over (injectors on B and D, Throttle bodies on all, fuel pressure regulators on B and D, etc) but look more specific for the OBD code and engine "grouping" when looking for replacement parts.

It doesnt matter. You cant upgrade your vtec solenoid.

Some people on here know more about Hondas and cars in general then certified mechanics.
