This car seems pretty much stock, and honda australia is refusing to warranty it ?
Seems about par with honda service worldwide.

i then stopped in a service lane to see what had happened. the engine block had blown a hole the size of a thumb and oil was leaking everywhere. called the mechinc to check it out and he said its most likely an internal engine problem. this had happen literally 2mins away from my house and i was driving very carefully knowing that the engine was still cold.

i have always serviced this car ontime and it has given my no trouble since i picked it up in april 06. my car is not stock it has p1s, exhuast, lowered, cai etc. but there is no way in hell these kinds of mods will lead to a car blowing up a bottom end. i mean anyone with knowledge on cars will know that it is pretty hard to physically blow a hole in a solid alluminum block.
the last service i didn't go through honda and had done it through a long time trusted mechanic friend. should i call up honda and demand them to fix my car or call insurance and have the car wrote off? any help is much appreciated.</TD></TR></TABLE>

common?...definitely not.
but i have read about a couple people having this happen to. probably between 8-10 people i think, but thats too many even for how many civics honda puts out.

Honda techs should be able to get into the ECU and determine whether the car was over-revved or not. Blowing a hole like that clean through a block is extremely hard to do. And at only 3K rpm it shouldn't happen at all. I would tell him to plead my case with Honda and have them PROVE that the car was intentionally abused.....if they can't prove it then they have to honor the warranty.
The presence of aftermarket parts alone is NOT grounds for denying a warranty claim.

like RICO said! here in the states the laws may be diffrent but the dealer cant void your warenty becuase of bolt on's. Im not sure about AUST is it the same there? get honda to buy that **** back and go get a Holden comador SS I wish we had them here! good luck!

Not sure how a CAI could blow a hole in the block.
I wonder if a freeze plug could have some how popped out?

You guys forget that he lives in Australia, it's a completely different country with different sets of laws. I'm not sure if the MM warranty act applies.
Honda should cover it, I don't see why they wouldn't based on what you've told us.

Granted the aftermarket parts may have contributed to the engine blowing up, defects are definately not out of the question. Today at our dealership we had an '07 civic LX with a grenaded 5spd transmission. The ring gear on the differential lost chunks of about 10 teeth. Looking closely at the first tooth of which was missing the most amount of metal you could see a half of a void in the metal, a bubble in the casting of the ring gear. Originally Honda wanted us to rebuild the transmission because of lack of available new transmissions on such a new car, but after the extensive damage was shown to Honda involving no only the ring gear but also the casings and mainshaft teeth, Honda warrantied a new transmission.

WRONG. Honda can't deny warranty because you don't use THEIR oil. If so places like Jiffy Lube and any other place that does oil changes wouldn't exist.
As long as the correct weight of oil is used then it will still be covered.

true that... i have a buddy of mine here in memphis with an 07 si and his motor blew up on him and they replaced it and also just a couple of months ago in Honda Tuning there was an article about a new civic that had already had to have a new engine installed. I put royal purple in my 07 and the dealer said that they will put it in if i just pay for the labor.....
We use quaker state bulk oil for 99% of our oil changes unless otherwise specified by the customer then Mobil 1 or Amsoil can be chosen. This is at a Honda dealership.

bad news guys...
just got off the phone with the operations manager. accoroding to 'his' understanding it will not be covoered by honda australia as the car has been subjected to 'driver abuse'. he also claimed i had overfilled the car with non genuie oil (ok, so how does that blow up a bottom end?) he gave me no actul explanation of how the engine actully came to blowing up the bottom end which i find is quite atonishing.
i demanded that i have a copy of the report honda australia gave him. to my suprise he said 'i have to get it from honda australia urself'. no i want the EXTACT report honda australia gave him. same reply.
i am going to go down to the dealership now and photograph every single part of the car (espcially the engine).</TD></TR></TABLE>
I miss read it just a bit but it was from driver abuse he just said on top of it sorry about that

Kinda like installing a amp for your factory speakers and blowing them out, then crying you want them to replace the speakers for free........
If you have a intake/header/ext, and you blow your motor they will turn you down everytime... And guess what, there is nothing you can do about it...

sue!! that's what you can do about it! my dealer said I can bolt on just about anything and it will not void my warranty. unless it's forced air ,ECU, or internal motor work. I/H/E will not void anything! dealer's want people to think that you can void your warranty with mod's so they can charge you for every little thing to make money. warranty work does not pay as much as a customer would pay. it just
tactics to make more money!

First....any person that puts any decent aftermarket amp on factory speakers deserves to be slapped in the face, kicked in the left nut, and titty-twisted till their nipples fall off. Most factory speakers are basically made out of paper and aren't built for the level of performance as most aftermarket ones. Therefore they could never handle that amount of power to support an aftermarket amp short of maybe a dinky little 25W X 4 RMS.
Second.....if you blow your motor you will most likely be turned down regardless of whether you have aftermarket parts or not. Over-revving can happen just as easily with OR without mods. It's mainly common in mis-shifting...not the aftermarket parts by themselves.
If however your tranny decides to go out and you have an intake system on your car, they would have to prove that the intake contributed to the transmission going out....which is highly unlikely.

Looks like a thrown engine rod. Drop in oil pressure<spun rod bearing<thrown rod. It takes some high rpm to throw a rod to cause damage like that. I did it before on purpose I had to hold the throttle bouncing off a 6600 rpm rev limit (non honda) for 2:43 seconds.
I'd check to see if there is some law like we have in the states called the magnusson moss warranty act. Here in the states dealers/manufacturers must prove the the part(s) caused or contributed to the cause for which a warranty claim is sought.
I know it's not much help to you but check this link out.

Perhaps the person could seek legal council on automotive issues.
