Default ZC swap into EF hatch

Within the next month or so I will be seriously looking into this, as i am severely missing my car As of now i have an 88 teg that i could gut for parts, as well as 94 si seats that i plan on throwing in.

I need any and all info on this swap ASAP so i can begin planning my "attack"

First some questions:

1. Is this the sort of swap that will need to be "professionally" done, or can 2 or 3 mechanically inclined people plus an actual mechanic with 20+ years of experience do this?

2. Apart from this: http://www.jdmsource.ca/v2/product.asp?ID=60 is ther anything else i will need?

3. How available are aftermarket parts for this? And how easy are they to get ahold of?

4. Is the ZC really worth it, from a cost against performance based opinion. Do they really have enough potential?

Thank you

You mentioned you have an 88 Integ that you are gonna gut for parts. I have a question, are you gonna use the engine from said Integ? Or are you buying a seperate ZC? I only ask because they aren't quite the same thing.

I see

To go a bit more into detail, if you plan on using your stock tranny, you can use the matching axles. If you are getting a DOHC ZC specific tranny, you need the correct matching axles or custom axles. If your car isn't an Si already, you'll need to rewire for MPFI. If your car happens to be a STD model and you plan on using the matching DOHC ZC tranny, you'll need to swap your front wheel hubs.

As for it being "worth it" or having "potential" it's really debatable. I don't doubt any motor's potential, it's up to the builder to realize it. The trick to upgrading/building a DOHC ZC isn't finding aftermarket parts MADE for it, it's really finding aftermarket parts that WORK with it. In it's most simple basic form, it's still generally a D-Series engine. Search around and you'll find what parts work from which specific D-Series engines and won't work.

i'm still pretty new to this whole honda thing, but this is my car:

1991 civic hatchback DX, standard. 320,000km

So i can keep my dx tranny, with no problems, or i can use the ZC tranny with different axles? What axles do i need?

And guys, keep in mind that at this time im not looking for a high powered civic, i just need a replacement engine and wanted a little more ***** then stock

To keep it simple then, use your old tranny and axles, swap the DOHC ZC in, rewire for MPFI and swap to a PM6 or PG7 ECU (or PM7 ECU if your motor includes it). The motor will use the same mounts as your stock engine. You can probably get this swap done in about 4 hours if you study up and plan ahead for everything.

24TEN is right, its a really easy and straightforward swap....if you have a few mechanically inclined guys and a haynes manual w/ the proper equipment theres nothing stopping you from driving in the garage with your stock engine and out with the zc ready to roll the same day...and you'll love the difference over stock!!

Don't forget to replace your timing belt and water pump before you do the swap...You'll be glad you did later on...

http://www.thezcr.com has everything you need to know about that motor and swap...

As far as being "worth it"...it depends who you ask. All I know is that the swap costs far less than a b series swap into a ef. And when all is said and done, the hp difference is only 20hp less than the b16. Hp easily made up with minor mods.

Good luck!
