Default SI Trans+DX Axles=WTF???

I have an 89 crx dx I did a d15bvtec swap into a while back. The motor shredded the stock replacement clutch (metal peeled back, all f'ed up) .. I put in a fidanza flywheel and exedy clutch and figured I might as well put the SI transmission I had in there while the motor was out. After much gnashing of teeth, the whole thing is in and Im doing the last parts.

Problem.. The axles simply dont fit.. they seem to be the right length, but ..... With the stock transmission the axles would slide in, engage the splines in the transmission and with a little pressure, would pop in.

With this trans, the axles slide right in, have tons of play and never engage the splines...

Sooo... is the transmission not an SI tranny? (bought it with a dohc ZC motor that supposedly had just come out of an 89 CRX). Do I need SI specific Axles? If I swap in SI axles, will I need to swap out the rotors also in order to match up the splines on the rotors?

Do I need to undo all of the work and put the darn DX trans back in and live with it?

Thanks!

also.. why does this kind of crap always take place 4 days into a 5 day vacation taken specifically for the purpose of putting a car back together?

91 crx? dx, si or hf?

thanks

edit:.. looks like the cost of this would be prohibitive really..think ill just suck it up and stick to the dx tranny unless I am told otherwise on here...

5spd.... i am assuming the si tranny is as well...other reason i chose to put it in is that it is supposed to have an LSD...

cause ive heard that when you go from 4speed to 5speed trannys you have to get bigger axles...iono if thats the same with your case

but if you swap out the axles i believe you do need to get rotors that match the spindles

The tranny you are trying to use is a ZC tranny, not a Si. The use of a ZC tranny requires new axles, and the use of an intermediate shaft.

no they all have L3 on the vin tag but only the ZC DOHC use integra axles and a half shaft like the other guy said.

crap..and i dont even know what a half shaft is....

thanks for the input.. once again, the only thing that can keep my crx off the road is my own ignorance.. 260k miles, and once it is back together I would put it against any new car for reliability...

thanks to everyone for your help.. wish I had asked earlier.

there is a write up on here somewhere you can install a hybrid diff, you use parts from your old diff in the zc diff so the axles fit. take a look

Good stuff no doubt, but if his tranny does indeed have a lsd, then he should not swap the lsd diff out, he should just get a si tranny, or at least an si final drive gear for his dx tranny.....good luck........
