Tire Size?
What vehicle is this concerning? Are you having any tire rub at all now? If not and you really want to step up, I guess you need to see how much clearance you have. The 225/40 tires are going to be wider and taller, while the 215 would just be a little taller, but not too much though.
Also, just wondering the reason you want to step up to a larger tire?

As far as the vehicle, 92 Si with 18x7.5 Konig Unknowns. Rims were shipped with the 215/35s but the roads are horrible around here. I want to step the tires up to help protect the rims. No rubbing whatsoever and I'm on stock suspension so I have a good amount of wheel well left. I was just curious if there would be any downside? It looks like the lip if the rim sticks out too far and would seem to sit better on 225 tires. Would I have fitment problems with 225s on a 7.5 wide rim?
18's and stock suspension? Interesting.....
The 40's are going to destroy your gearing(slower acceleration) and possibly rub like theres no tomorrow. I say ditch the 18's and get some 17's with a 215/40. Just like I tell people with 215/45/17's.......do you want your slow car to be slower?
Does your Prelude look like a Monster Truck right now?

Remember I drive though New Orleans on a weekly basis.... Horrible doesn't even describe the roads, so ride height is a major factor.

Haha... Well I still have the slushbox and H23 in there so H22/manual swap is my main concern. Once the swap is done I would like to get a fresh coat of silver but I wouldn't mind a Skunk2/Koni setup. Still undecided on which ones coming first.
