Default quick Q about the crash washar

can u tell me please , is the engine oil drain plag has the normal washar??? because i was gonna get one to replace after drain engine oil, but the shop says i have to get it from dealar???!!!! i was shoked. can u tell me if i can use a normal washar or not??? thanks n adv.

no, you need a "crush washer", it bends a bit to make a tight seal between the plug and the pan.

they are less than $1 each

any crush washer that fits around the drain plug will work. dont have to be from dealer.

You can get one from Autozone, Kragen, pep boys etc. They are typically made from aluminum or copper so they will conform and crush to create a seal between the drain plug and oil pan. Ive found that in a bind, you can reuse them at least a few times, but they are cheap to replace.

I buy about 20 at a time from the dealer.. change it everytime the oil is changed.
