speedometer gear keeps getting damage..

Default speedometer gear keeps getting damage..

i just replaced my vss on my 89 honda civic hatchback si..it has a 89 crx si transmission and my vss keep getting messed up. so my speedometer isnt working. what seems to be the problem??????

I'd guess that you're not putting it in all the way or you have the incorrect speedo cable. Did you replace the whole VSS or just the cable?

i replaced the whole vss..when i took out the gear.it was messed up again..could it be something in the transmission that spinning the gear damaging the gear???

Could be that the plastic gear on the differential that transfers to the VSS is stripped. Are you using a mechanical or electronic VSS?

Can you disassemble a transmission and differential?

I'd be willing to put my money on you either using the wrong one or not having it pushed in all the way. Although, you may have damaged te gear on the diff by putting it in wrong in the first place...

I'm just making assumptions though, not calling you dumb or anything. Try shining a flashlight into the VSS hole to see if your speedo gear is damaged.
