Default Question on mileage at half tank

My Accord is getting around 105-113 miles to a quarter tank. After that the gauge drops like a rock, at ~170 miles, I'm at less than 1/4 of a tank. My car has been doing this the past fuel ups, and before that I ran out of gas. I thought my needle was reading inaccurately between 1/4 and E, and dropped, and the tank was done.

It just doesn't seem right knowing when I filled up at the 3/4 tank mark, I used 5 gallons. Where is all this gas going, if my gauge is reading correctly? I haven't noticed any kind of fuel leak anywhere.

So, what is your car's mileage at or below half tank

I think more importantly is what is you miles per gallon? I don't rely on the gas gauge/trip to accurately determine if I have a problem somewhere, I take the mileage driven divided by the gallons of gas I put in to get my miles per gallon. Then if I see fluctuation in my MPG I then start looking into why.

So you said you get 105-113 miles at 1/4 tank, how many gallons of gas do you put in at this time? Or do you wait? If you wait, at how many miles do you fill up and when you fill up how many gallons of gas do you put in?

If you aren't putting much gas in and getting normal MPG, I would look at the gas gauge or something like that. If you are putting in lots of gas and getting horrible gas mileage then there is something else wrong.

When I dropped to 3/4 tank from a full tank, I went to a gas station to fill it and it was 5 gallons. Within the 5 gallons, I think I got like 118 miles, putting me at around ~23 mpg. So tank was definitely full.

About a week later, things are consistent, at 3/4 of a tank, I have ~109 miles clocked. I'm now at ~180 miles, and below 1/4 of a tank. Last time my car read that low, I ran out of gas shortly after.

In all, I'm filling my tank, getting ~110 miles on the first 1/4 and than it goes to hell after that. No idea and it is driving me crazy

Our gas gauges suck and aren't too accurate.

I'm roughly 180ish at half way

I hope that's the case. I searched fuel leaks and haven't found too much about stock Accords or Hondas in general. I threw $10 a while ago just for the hell of it to see what happens. My needle found it's way to a little between 1/2 and 3/4 tank where it should be.

This calculation seems right. 1/4 of a tank is about 4.26 gallons. I would do as touringaccord says. Fill up, drive until you have less than 1/4, then fill up again and do the math: miles driven by number of gallons pumped. It is the closest you'll get to accuracy. Honda gas gauges are never accurate in my experience.
