CLick on the Deterrents tab

AS QUOTED FROM CNN.
Deterrents
Authorities are trying different tactics to discourage street racing. Some are going after the spectators, fining them up to several hundred dollars for watching a race. Some are providing an outlet to racers by opening local racetracks and sanctioning events.
In Ontario, California, last year, authorities started hitting racers where it hurts -- confiscating and crushing their cars, as seen on the video at right. "That's my heart, my dream, "one racer said as his car was put into a compactor. "That's mygirlfriend, the love of my life."

Ya, I noticed that, too. But then again its CNN so they are going to source data from anywhere. but, ya the night race that's shown looks like it came from FL. and the Ocfifer that's being interviewed is a local PD, Ontario, CA.

What's classified as street racing in the United States? If you and a friend go on a three-lane highway at the middle of the night, filming how a newly tuned car pulls from a roll and having to catch up because of the speed of the other car. Is that street racing? Or is street racing those "really clever guys" from Fast and the Furious and such, "closing" (or not) regular streets and "racing for pink slips yo"? If it's the latter, the roads are better off without them
But it's not just a rhetorical question. What is defined as street racing? And what are street racers charged with, speeding and reckless driving?

I dont street race. Thats my personal opinion. I dont hate on people that do though. I am however opposed to people that race in area's or ways that put innocent people at risk. for example; in high traffic area's or where there are any other cars around.
In humble ky, theres a lot of leniency towards street racing. A LOT. the laws arent nearly as strict towards offenders as ive seen (*cough*cali*cough*), but they will still roast you if its obvious. I agree here:

At the same time, theres a very nice drag strip only 45 minutes away from Lexington, and there are auto x events held locally pretty frequent, with plenty of track stuff within driving distance. There really shouldn't be a lot of this going on. does it happen? YES! but there needs to be more deterrents and options on punishment. like a racing specific traffic school, or city sanctioned events. the car modding communities are were, are, and will continue to be here for a long while. If teen pregnancy gets an ad campaign, wheres mine?
take it to the track kids.

I used to street race religiously down in Ontario, Cali. from '98 - '04 or so but that scene got worse and worse (People showing up in mom's mini-van, dad's Suburban, getting drunk and causing scenes, etc.). I never raced on busy public streets during daytime hours, etc. It was ALWAYS in industrial parks after midnight, but there were still accidents all the time.....and why???? Because of some dumbasses that liked to drive 100mph everywhere and do stupid **** like pull a U-turn out of nowhere while cars are racing down the street.
Stupid is as stupid does. Street racing doesn't cause deaths, stupidity does.

well, let's put it this way. It takes two to have a race to see who's fastest. But, on the flip side of that coin it just take 1 guy and his car to see how fast he can go by himself. either way its street racing...whether on the open hwy or residential street. There's going to be a potential for destruction and death.
What interested me with this officers interview is that he made mention that the parts on these cars were mostly stolen. Where'd they get that from...How do they know that what's in the car's contain stolen goods????
With that I HATE THIEVES

I dont feel bad. The owners were contacted, and it was verified the engine and parts WERE stolen. Whats the problem? Do you want someone else enjoying your drivetrain?
That's a question that i've asked myself since i saw a video, few months ago, saying "cars had stolen parts". Also, saying they had "stolen motors", probably considering that the vin number on the engines wouldn't match with the one belonging to the car. That sure made me think about engine swap and how it could be seen by authorities if you were to get pulled over during a race or something.
so if ur caught racing ont he street and find out u have stolen parts, they'll crush your car. or do they still crush your car no matter if its stolen or not but if u were caught racing.
its stolen than i understand, if its not its pretty fu*ked for them for doing this imo.

Its not a question of VIN#'s matching or not, the VIN plate on the motors are either removed, filed down, or are VIN#'s matching that from a stolen vehicle. In Cali, if they find a stolen motor in your car they seize your ride and either remove the motor, or keep the car all together.
