AEM EMS vs. EMS 8860
I currently have an AEM EMS and have been hearing alot of good things about the 8860 i was wondering what functionality the 8860 adds over the AEM and whether the upgrade is worth it.
I was also wondering if the AEM EMS would also function well with any of the standalone dash logger type systems like the one below

no clue what the ems 8860 is, so i cant compare the 2.
the aim sports dash works with the AEM EMS perfectly using the firmware v1.19 with telemetry output enabled.

the aim sports dash is a nice peice. i was going to use one in my car last year but never got around to it. tuned a rally car not too long ago that had one in it.

Hey are you Tom from Camp1320? We went to your shop on a visit from the dominicn republic last summer, we went with Jerrold Rhodes. Thanks for the advice guys, seems like theres no real reason to go for the 8860
And for the AIM Sports Dash does that lso measure air/fuel ratio or no?

there are several "dash loggers" available now. ive looked deeply into the racepak stuff, but never read up on their dash logger. looks like its aimed more towards road race type stuff. from the research ive done on the aim sports stuff, it seems road race oriented as well...but seems as if it would work well for drag racing as well. the pcs stuff seems to be more drag race oriented.
ive downloaded and played with all of their software. the pcs and racepak (their datta logging stuff, not the dash?) software is very easy to use and straight to the point. the aimsports software is a little more in depth but seems to do a lot more as well--most of which wouldnt be taken advantage of in a drag race situation.
the complete racepak dattalogger is unbeatable, and has more channels than anybody could ever use, but the price is up there especially once you start adding channels. the aimsports dashes you really need to pick how many channels you want because there is no upgrading from there with out getting another dash. aimsports can read directly from a ton of differnt ecu's. the pcs dash has 8 channels, 2 rpm/speed channels, can monitor all engine sensors from several different ECU's, and they are in the process of developing an expander modual for an additional 8 channels and i think 3 or 4 speed channels. nobody will ever touch how badass racepak's wiring system is!!

Im really leaning towards the Racepak now since we also have a roadrace car and it would be nice to have some of its features... Are there any particular downsides to the racepak as a drag racing dash? What we really need is all the sensors for boost, a/f ratio, water and oil temps, oil pressure, etc, shift lights, and rpm sensors, it seems as if the racepak pulls that off fine.
Also with the PCS what do you lose as far as functionality over the racepak, thats a really attractive price.
Lastly when buying one of these do you need to buy all the sensors seperately?

Racepak is my choice system over all others.

Yes, racepak includes a couple sensors depending on which system you go with and the rest are on you to purchase. You can purchase them directly throughrace pak or a racepak dealer.
As far as using it to replace the gauges, i have alot customers who have spent all types of money on dumb gauges. If they would have spent the money right the first time they could have had something like a racepak non dataloging dash.

with the pcs dash, you have a couple different options
- You can buy the dash, and whatever sensors you will need individually.
- You can buy the sportsman kit which comes with the accelerometer, the CAN kit (which enabled other options like boost control and 4cyl egt once you buy the hardware,) driveshaft kit, and 4 sensors (2 250psi pressure and 2 fluid temp) for around $1,300
- You can buy the Pro kit, which is more pricey but comes with everything in the sportsman kit plus the clutch speed kit, 4probe EGT kit, and an extra 2500psi pressure sensor, and a few others. This comes in at are $2,300
PCS is the way to go in my book

and obviously it includes the dash itself. the "few others" i was speaking of were just the CAN master kit and the CAN add-on kit (which allow you to actually use all the stuff that comes with the pro kit lol)

the biggest advantage racepak has is its wiring system, and the fact it can log SO MANY things. from what ive seen, from a drag racing stand point, the PCS is capable of doing everything we would need it to do in a drag race application (shock travel sensors, you name it)
and yes ive seen lots of people use these style dash's just as "gauges" and not really use it for its logging features.
you can unlock a feature on the PCS dash to log up to 1000 times per second, which is faster than anything is happening even on a 7 second car.
its also nice that PCS employee's will be at every sport compact event you go to. can't beat the customer support with that.

no it will display anything your EMS is reading.
if you would run any aditional gauges such as fuel pressure, nitrous pressure, exhaust back pressure, etc...........you can wire those directly into the dash.....or into the EMS which would then be able to be displayed through the dash.

We had really good results with the PCS dash this past season in our SFWD CRX. We set-up can bus with the FAST XFI. We had enough available inputs to the XFI box to be able to just connect directly with the can bus, and not wire anything additional to the PCS dash. Russ from PCS was great the track with tech questions, and even gave us a new dash since the first one was acting a bit goofy on engine cranking. Between the remote datalogger with Fast and the PCS dash, we were able to have two seperate loggers going for each run. We could have logged so much more data, but didnt take advantage of it.
