Car wont stay running. Help Please.
Hi.
I have a 91 Integra that will start but not stay running. When I got it, there was no air intake assembly on it. I drove it from the curb of my house into the back yard. Started and ran fine (considering...)
So, now it has rained on the car. It has a hood but it got water inside the car. Guess the sunroof leaks...
I got an intake off of another 91 and put it on. Hooked up vacuum lines and crankcase vent. Now, the car will start but not stay running. It will run between 2 and 5 seconds before stopping. Replaced battery and ground cable.
Here is what happens:
Crank, starts, quits. Crank immediately after and no ignition (combustion)
Crank, starts, quits. Let sit for 15 seconds then crank again - starts - quits.
Feathering throttle does not keep it running any longer.
So it will "start" after sitting for a little bit but it wont stay running. If you keep cranking after it dies then you can crank for 5-10 seconds with no "fire".
Any suggestions would be appreciated.....
Rob

Check to see if there is spark coming. Also, checkl fuel. Most likely its an ignition problem. Possibly distributor. Since it starts and dies and then cranks and wont start unless you leave it alone for a few. The problem is that when the coil or igniter heat up, the car dies. And it has to cool down before you can start it up again. A dirty fuel filter can also have the same effect. Except it just wont start for a while. Check to make sure there is fuel before you go replacing the filter.
