3rd Gen TL TPMS workaround?

3rd Gen TL TPMS workaround?
My Dad has an '06 TL Dynamic, we live in Canada, he runs 17" '05 TL rims with winter tires on them 1/2 the year, these rims do not have the provisions for the TPMS sensors cast into them. Every time he drives more than a block, he gets the pop up message from the TPMS, is there any way to defeat this? Can you use aftermarket sensors with the OEM TPMS?

ladies and gentlemen, this is why we actually do some research before we do something stupid like buy rims that cannot work properly with the car........

It was a winter tire package from the dealer, and one of the very 1st '06's that they sold. It got overlooked I guess, but it's annoying.
