Default ECT question

So I have code 60 (ect) And my vtec won't engauge. So this should mean that my temp sensor is bad and My temp gauge shouldn't work... Correct?

Well my temp gauge does still work.. It moved to the quarter mark on a 20 min drive. Now I'm concerned that my car is over heating and it got hot enough to make the needle move.

Tomorrow I plan on replacing the sensor any way but I just wanted to make sure that I'm not going to be running into any other problems here.

Also what motors can the ECT sensor interchange with? Can I use one off of a teg or non vtec civic?

you have two sensors

they are different types

temperature sensor: sensor for the computer usually a two wire plug, sensor threaded into coolant passage of any sort, on your car it should be on the thermostat housing, which is where the lower radiator hose connects to the engine.

temperature sender: sensor for the guage, I have yet to see one in 11 years that did not have only one wire, yours should be located at the cylinder head near the upper water outlet ( mine is on a gsr anyway ) but it will be the only 1 wire sensor besides the oil pressure sensor and that is right by the oil filter

the code you have IS NOT for the sensor that works the guage, that is still working fine, so look for the one at the t-stat.

Not to sound like a dick or prove you wrong but this is what happened.

The other day I was driving home when i got into a pissing challenage with another civic. When I hit third I got wheel hop ( cold here ) The wheel hop was so bad it knocked the ground on the battery loose (my lazziness from the other day ) it some house also caused the wire(s) for the ECT in the side of my head to come loose from the connector (not the sensor the pins) In my peer panic over the CEL I only thought to check the sensor in the TS. After replacing this and still haveing the CEL It hit me that there was another on in my head. Upon inspection I noticed that the actaul pins in the connector had pulled out ( stock cx harness and been threw hell) I repinned the connector and plugged it back in, Started the car with no CEL this time. Problem solved, Just over reacted to fast is all.

And to reply to your post, I have a 2 wire ECT in my head and a 2 wire ECT in my thermostat. I also am running a GSR head and mine is located under the vtec selinoide. Now you can say " AFTER 11 YRS YOU"VE SEEN A TWO WIRE "

Intresting, the wiring diagram, and on my car, only have one wire, and I have an actual gsr, not a civic/integra. There should be only one wire, the circuit works like this, the "sensor" is solely a thermistor, it changes resistance based on temperature, it works off ground, its ground signal is the engine, so therefore it requires one wire to send a signal to the guage, so why you have two wires I dont know.

Yes there are cars that run two out there ( cant think of any right now but sure ), I should have worded it different ( I was very "anebriated" last night lol ) but anyway cool you got it fixed. But on all my integras/honda's they have always been 1 wire and almost every single car I have ever worked on has only had 1 but back to ya.

take a picture of it if you get a chance, I would like to see it, maybe the civic used 2, always good to learn something new

after you take the picture I will say I have seen a 2 wire

OH so out of curiosity I ordered a Civic Cx temperature sender, and it only has one prong on it for the guage, so something is jacked about yours. I manage an automotive shop so its easy for me to order and return parts

http://www.prostreetonline.com...r.asp

and I checked with two places on the part numbers for a GSR and a Civic Cx both are matching part numbers between two different brands, so im still right something about your car or your looking at the wrong thing

Dont get me wrong I am not being a dick either
