Need help diagnosing excessive wheel hop
I just did a LOT of work on my car.
I rebuilt the motor, new clutch, rebuilt the trans.
SiR Rear disc conversion, prop valve and Master cylinder
I installed the JRSC kit @ 6psi on the d16y8
new bushings on the rear
The car is a '98 Acura EL aka the fancy canadian civic sedan
The car currently has mystery springs (bought it lowered)
The shocks look original 215,000 kms on car
There is now some mystery fluid on my drivers side tower to headlamp.
There is no leak in my power steering system, as far as I know cruise control
systems have zero fluid in the bellows. I don't think honda used hydraulically
dampened engine mounts either.
Only the driver side wheel is doing it, it makes a scary klunk klunk metal noise when launching semi-hard. Also the car seems to raise up on the drivers front about 2-3 inches higher consistently with the noise. The noise is not there while driving or regular engagement of 1st gear.
I have checked
the axle (nut hasn't moved)
took the wheel off and tried to move the hub with no luck
the ball joints where replaced within a year and a half and look good
The car imho failed the bounce test, but not like a piece of jello
no missing hardware or broken swaybar endlinks

Sounds like the stock dampers are worn out.
new dampers and springs. or coil over kit.
Also you are making a lot more power to the wheels, than stock.... people have said that a traction bar has helped reduce their wheel hop... just make sure you buy one that is properly designed, and doesn't bind...

Actually, the left engine mount (the one beside the timing belt cover) on certain '96-00 Civics (and 1.6EL AFAIK) is a hydraulic mount. Sounds like yours is broken, judging by the clunking noises, wheel hop, and "mystery fluid" in that area. Take a closer look at that mount. I'd be willing to bet the other mounts aren't in great shape either. The two front mounts (one for the A/C compresser bracket and the other on the opposite side) are notorious for breaking.
Sounds like you could also use new dampers as well. Using the stock dampers with non-OE springs is bad enough, let alone old and heavily used stock dampers . . .
Addressing those items should minimize the wheel hop. If you're still having problems after that, you'll probably have to look into a traction bar setup of some sort. Make sure all front suspension bushings are intact and in good shape as well.
