90-91 Civic/CRX cable clutch kit - please read
Hi,
I'm looking for people that have installed an aftermarket performance cable clutch kit for a 90-91 Civic or CRX. This can include ?88-?89 where the flywheel was upgraded to handle a '90-'91 kit.
What I'm looking for is if everything is running correctly with your setup, or the setup has changed quite a bit on your vehicle. This can include things such as, spongy pedal feel, all free travel has been dialed out of the clutch pedal, possible disengagement issues, etc. Of course, everything else checks out okay - cable stretch, firewall flex, release bearing, etc...
All performance clutch kits that I could find (ACT, CenterForce, Excedy, etc.) use the same clutch kits for the 90-91 cable transmissions as they do the '92 and higher hydraulic transmissions. However OEM or generic replacement pressure plates show a part number difference between 91 and 92, and I think there is a geometry change with the pressure plate. I've found a couple other posts where people have installed a 90-91 cable clutch kit and have to remove all free travel in order to make it work. I think the pressure plates are designed for '92 and higher hydraulic transmissions, but it just happens to work on a 90-91 as well.
If you've experienced anything like this could you reply quick with your car, clutch kit, and issue? I'm curious to see if people with 90-91 Civic/CRX performance clutch kits have similar "quirks" to them. Thanks.

My vehicle. '88 CRX Si with 90-91 flywheel upgrade, 20 spline mainshaft, and clutch kit. Fidanza flywheel. ACT HD pressure plate. ACT 6 button spring clutch. All free travel has been removed in order to get the clutch to disengage. Everything else on the vehicle is fine. Nothing is stretched or flexing. Flywheel step is correct, clutch disc thickness is correct, release bearing is fine, pilot bearing, pedal cluster, firewall, etc.
Not unless someone else knows what my problem could be. I'm found a couple other posts with similar issues, most being no free travel left in the clutch. Thanks.
