transmission will not go into gear ???
89 si stock
Transmission will not go into any gear with pedal fully depressed.
I had someone push the clutch in while I was looking. The lever that the cable is connected to does not seem to go up. What could cause this?
Thanks!

honestly, im in the exact same position as you. well, its not as serious as you seem to make it sound. my car sometimes doesnt want to get into first if i let it sit in neutral for too long. it just takes putting it back in neutral, pressing the clutch in and back out quickly to get the gears moving again and it goes from there. so it just takes a split second more to go after it turns green, probably just more annoying to the guy behind me.
and im maxed out of cable adjustment too. it just means its time to replace my clutch. not something im looking forward too either. im not quite sure if its related to not wanting to get into first, tho. either way, i need to get it done soon, hopefully before it quits on me...

oh, nevermind. seems like you just need a new cable.

It's not so bad. Be glad you're on the left coast where the bolts don't rust

time to drop the tranny. here's my thoughts.... release bearing is having a problem sliding (possibly no lube or it's getting hung up somehow on the shaft) or perhaps there's some rust between your case and release arm shaft and it seized. now if the release sytem checks out good then it's a clutch problem.
I agree with the guy above. I was having the exact same problem as Tyson. I could not get my car in gear. I would sit at a stop light and could not get into first. I dropped the tranny and the spring that controls the throwout bearing was broken. I had a NIGHTMARE with replacing this too. The one bolt that holds the spring/fork and shift lever together was broken. I had to drill it out to get to the spring. After 3 days of hard work, and a few "mods", I had a new rear main seal, clutch and properly working throwout bearing. It works great now.
