Default Pulled my magnetic oil plug and found...

Absolutely nothing.

Which tells me either my motor is extremely happy with me, or the plug didnt work

This thing was clean as a whistle...not a spec to be found.
Isnt there supposed to be a bit of accumulation from normal driving?

Mine usually comes back looking like a pinecone well on the tranny anyway....

the drain pan one shows a bit of pickup despite the fact I also use a filter magnet...

It should look like that if you change your oil regularly and don't abuse on the engine.

I just changed the oil in my D16Y7 (whimpy DX beater) and found tiny amount of little specs of "dust" clingling to the plug (Pep Boy Special).

Oil change interval of 3000mi using Mobil1 (somtimes a bastardized mix of weights) and using OEM Honda filters.

For the DC2, I'm not sure what to expect yet since I haven't installed the drain plug yet (waiting for baffled oil pan to go in). I did put in a magnetic plug in the transmission on the last tranny oil change, though...

DC2 also follows the 3000mi change interval with 5W30 Mobil1 and OEM filter. I use 15W50 Mobil1 to "top off" at the track so that it doesn't burn as fast.

I think it's a worthy mod since it's hella cheap and there are no negative effects that I can think of. One could probably duplicate the effect by putting a neodymium rare earth magnet ($2-10) onto the end of the drain plug.

Hope that helps somebody out there.

I still wonder whether these magnets actually work.
What I'm wondering is, which part of the engine has a high magnetic permeability? Will the small pieces of metal actually stick on the magnet? I know that Aluminium (US: aluminum) won't!!!

I dont think theres any aluminum to aluminum contact in our engines. Even though they're made out of aluminum parts, I think the rings, cylinder sleaves, and bearings are some type of steel which should stick to a magnet.
