Default Painting tail lights and head lights

First for the head light. When you "crack it open", what do you re-seal it with?
For the tail lights. Is it illegal to have orange back-up lights? I was thinkning of leaving the top red, and painting the 1/3 of the bottom (orig white) a transparetn orange. If i do this, do I paint the inside or the outside? Also where would i go to get these paints (tansparent orange, and what black for the headlights)? Thnks

Im pretty sure most state laws require backup lights to emit a white light.

That may be true, but when was the last time a cop pulled somebody over for illegal reverse lights?? I think I would take my chances on this one, I have clear corners with white bulbs and I haven't gotten the slightest hassle about it yet.

Besides, if you got a ticket, just use so paint thinner and take the orange off.

Just telling you what I would do, it is your car, so do whatever ya want

Peace

I woulnd't recomend painting your reverse lights but for the head lights you can use flat black or try to find some type of gun mettal gray Plasticote makes a wheel paint tha is gun mettal, any spray pait will hold up well. I used GE silicone III adhesive to seal them and haven't had a leak, hell they are sealed better than from the factory. BTW the easies way to take the headlight apart is by heating them up in a oven at about 300 Degrees for 5 mints. do the same to get them back together.

dude u must not live in california....here, especially in LA they pull u (imports) over for every little thing. and doesnt matter if ur air intake or exhuast or tail lites(altezza DOT approved) are 50 state legal...they'll give u a fix-it ticket.

While it is true that I don't live in Cali, when is the last time a cop even saw your reverse lights, altezzas are very easy to spot, they can easily hear your exhaust
but when do they see your reverse lghts??. Just don't throw it in reverse when a cop is right behind you.

All I am saying is that it is one of those things that I would take a chance on if I really wanted the red reverse lights.

to get that gun metal look.... you can get this spray for smoking tail lights.... it should be like 30'some bucks.... you should bust searches online for the paint like on jcwhitney.... or other fake online catalogs..... and for your back lights... it looks alot better when you spray from the outside.... you can get candy orange.... like what they use on lowriders.... that paint is transperant.... then wait a day or two and spray it again with clear.....

superbowl sunday..... i hope no one is drinking and driving..... i dont feel like getting rear ended today.....
now i got to find me a designated driver.....

I also wanted to know what to use to seal headlights back up. I just blacked my housings and now they are fogging up. I heard from some friends to use rtv or some other kind of silicon caulking. What have you all used.

I know this is the law, im not doubting that part, but what is the difference in painting you taillgihts transparent red like this (my car)

And the stock tails on the new civic sedan??

I know the stock ones on the new civic are lighter red than mine, but couldnt a cop still pull a person over because they would emit a pinkish-red light??

I was just wondering this when I saw these tails on a civic today, and then I figured this thread would be a good place to get my question answered.

I've had my tails painted red for like 3 or 4 years now... I have never once had a cop or anyone else say anything. I just watch when I reverse to make sure it's safe (no one close by), and don't ever reverse in front of cops. This hasn't been a problem, or burdeon. I have never run into any problems whatsoever... and I think it looks clean, so

peaces.

I tried that and it worked like crap. Once you pry it apart the glue that was there gets all messed up and wownt seal good anymore. I used some generic silicone sealant that i got from pep boys or autozone siliconed the f*ck out of it and it hasnt fogged at all since i've done it and it has been about 6 months
