Does your check engine light work? (It should illuminate before you start the car.)

The oxygen sensor is critical to fuel economy, power, and engine durability.

Yes, it should be connected. I don't see how you are not throwing a CEL without it. What year is your car?

it would be alot easier to replace it with the plug, but theres no harm in connecting it directly.

make sure your check engine light works, meaning the bulb works, when you initially put your key in and turn it to "on" your light should come on.

and as the dog said, the o2 sensor is vital for engine performance, fuel economy, and emissions control. no signal from the o2 SHOULD throw a code, but since its a 1990, it may not.

I prefer not to cut any wires on the car.

me too but if you dont have a connector, its your only choice, plus i think in 1990 theyre a 1 wire o2 sensor, so its pretty straightfoward.

on a misc note, does anyone know where i can get custom misc connectors, like for custom switches i put in my console, so when i take it out, its just a simple harness i can disconnect?
