I just took out the blown stock speaker from my front door, cut the wires at the base of the connector, and spliced them to the new wires that Sony provided with the new speakers. There are four stock speaker wires, and I only used one of each color with each of the two new speaker wires, clipped them onto the new speaker, and I get nothing. I thought maybe I had the pos and neg reversed, and switched them around, and still nothing. I found through searching that it doesn't matter which wire is connected to which tab on the speaker because it's AC, but what is wrong? Do I need to splice all four wires to the two new ones? The only other time I have messed with stereo **** was on my first car six years ago, which had aftermarket speakers but the stock speakers were put back in when it was sold to me so it was already good to go and I didn't have any problems getting them to work with new speakers; that car also had only two wires per speaker. wtf
You should have purchased speaker harnesses and it would have been plug & play.
Also, it does indeed matter which is positive and negative.
Your car is an EX I'm assuming, and two of the four wires go up to the tweeter. If you connected your new speaker to the tweeter wires, then of course you won't get sound.
Go here: for the proper wiring colors and connect. Don't forget to solder & use heat shrink.

LOL, 0 for 2, what are the chances of getting both sides wrong, 50/50 I guess.
I agree, you have probably picked the leads for the tweeters, they just parallel off the mid, and you are correct, in a way, it makes no diff. on which wire goes to which terminal, either way will get you sound, however, both sides have to be the same for the speakers to be in phase.

Okay I fixed it. I think lol. I had no idea two wires go to the tweeters. All I did was splice both brown and both red wires together, since there isn't a discernable difference that I could see between them. The speakers work fine. I'm assuming it won't really make a difference this way, as the speakers have a tweeter on them already?
If the speakers are in phase and sounding good then no it does not make a diff. that the tweeter leads are connected.
