There's an old post that I've been searching for on here for the longest about different oil manufacturers. Someone on H-T posted results from a test that he or the company he worked for at the time did on different brands of oil. They pressure tested how well the oil held up against dispersion under load and pressure. It was good reading but I wished I had saved it to use for future reference.

10w30 mobil 1. easy and convenient to get.
2 years on the same motor, no problems....and the bearings looked good enough to reuse after all that time. hundreds of pass's and over 200 dyno pulls.
ive debated going to thicker oil, but what ive been doing has been working so well i didnt want to change anything lol

I think the oil selection is slightly less critical on cars with roller rockers. Cam/rocker wear is a huge problem that oil brand and weight can have a huge effect on.
You know one oil I never seen run in many turbo apps is the 0W or 5W Royal purple. I see it alot in small displacment V8 n/a apps. Whats your thought Tony?
I feel like thicker oil gives us more protection. Obviously at the cost of a little power, but that's a sacrifice 99% of us would give in the turbo world. There's much easier (safer?) ways to find 10hp on a turbo car.

I saw all those cases you had back at the shop!

Shell Helix ultra 5w40 synthetic is what we are running now,,,we used to use 20 50 but the bearings used to get pitted in the middle, not sure if it was oil related, but when we switched it stopped.
Coastal 10W40 at the 99cents store.

Oil weight also depends on the engine tolerance's. The more bearing clearance, the thicker the oil should be run. I have seen where guys have switched from 20-50 back down to a 10w30 and bearings have come out of the engine looking better. I like the Torco 5w40 SR-5 oil.

Ya can't forget about that. Whats good for someone isnt necessarily right for another.
