Default Not going into first gear smooth enough??

Like the title says in the morning or whey the car sits for at least 3-4 hrs I start it and let it warm up for at least a min or 2 before I take off, but is really a pain in the neck to put in first gear it takes some time, gotta play with it a little bit first then it will go in. What could be causing this is my clutch going or is it the tranny? I own a 99 civic EX with 145K, thanks in advance.

you dam right asap, if you change the fluid you might see a big difference especially if you use mtf because it will perform better in cold weather instead of 10w-40, but people have a difference opinion on that,

yes change it asap, i doubt that it was changed before, cause the mileage is not that big.
just dont be cheap and dont try to cut corners, use only honda mtf or gm synchromesh friction modified fluid.

just pull the shifter down towards second gear, not enough to put it in second, but just a little, then push it straight up into first, should go smooth
