Attention all AUTOCROSSERS
This comes from a local forum here in Jersey.
This is a warning to everyone.
I just got off the phone with my insurance company (Geico) and they informed me that as of the end of the month my insurance policy is being cancelled. Why might you ask I haven't had an accident. No moving violations in several years.
The answer:
"We have found out that you have participated in time trial events."
I tried to reason with the lady, and explain to her that I haven't even autocrossed with my Subaru (the car I have insured with them) and that the SCCA has their own liability insurance for their events. She told me it didn't matter there was nothing she could do and that it was final as of 12:01 AM Jan. 28 2008 I would no longer be covered.
I guess they searched results on the internet and found my name. I have heard of this being a problem with warranties in the past but after 4 years of autocrossing with my other company (Liberty Mutual) I had never had a problem.
So I am writing here to warn all of you that if you have Geico, cancel your policy now. They do not respect us for what we do, and therefore I believe do not deserve a single dime from anyone.
I can see why they might hesitate with this issue as some people can't leave it on the track, but the vast majority of autocrossers are responsible enough to not do this. If anything we are lowering the accident rate through improving our driving skills.

in your case i would be pissed, let me get this straight. you have two cars. you race one thats not insured by them, and drive one that is. and theyre dropping you? first off i belive them searching something like that is an invasion of privacy. two theyre dropping you for no reason. thats a stereotypical reason to drop you. and your being responsible and racing on a closed track, with all the saftey items that come with that. and your not dangering anyone else that didnt sign a waiver to get on the track. id talk to a lawyer.

lawyers are expensive. Every minute you talk, is another minute they're charging you. Probably not worth it if he's found another company.
thanks for the warning bro. I would've never thought.

you can talk to a lawyer for free. if he thinks you have a winning case you can hire him. any lawyer will give a free consultation because thats how they get business.
This has been known for for a while now. I know Geico and Progressive (i think its progessive) send out agents to track events (drag, autox, etc) and take down license plates and see whos insured by them and who is not. If they find out you are one they drop you no questions asked. Thats why when we go to the track no plates on our cars.
man thats bullshit. i thought stereotyping was illegal. i dont see how they can refuse a service because of that. anyway can drive fast. some better than others. atleast hes doing it responsably.

I would talk to someone higher up Geico. Even when you do find another company to insure you, you will have to pay to start the insurance and it just going to cost you more money and hassle. Either that or just say screw them, maybe you can get a better rate else where.
