shot peening?
so i just got off the phone with the machinist who is going to micropolish my crank and I asked him about shot peening my rods. he says that and I quote " no one does actual shot peening around here. most shops that say they do are just using shot which is used to clean parts, but its not a true shot peen." what do you think about that? what is the difference? i said wont the shot still take away any scratches and he still advised against paying for it.
He's right, most shops don't do actual shot peening.
Metal improvement company is what you should look into. Very informational site.
Also if you check on the 4th or 5th page, I think there is another thread about it. Search "shot peening theory" or something like that.

yeah i guess DonF confirmed it in the "shot peening theory" thread. looks like no shot peening for me. but while people are still reading my thread, is it always necessary to replace the rod bolts? i bought a set of used eagle rods from another user on here and i dont know anything about that.
it may not be necessary, but if the motor's already opened up, <$100 is a small price for peace of mind knowing that a common weak point is covered.

well, what you gotta worry about is the OEM stretching on you. the arp's won't do that so long as you follow ARP's instructions.
hope this helps.
