it is apparent that comments wont be allowed at anytime on the accord picture thread so allow me to support my friend neil aka cd5 and starting this off as an ARCHIVE accord picture thread(preferablly 1990's and UP) so allow this to be an attempt at a new way to do this...starting now

 

We have already had others attempt another picture thread, why should this one be any different? Did you even clear this with myself or Dave first? No. It's still a non-technical picture based thread which is against the forum rules right? Yes.

The other has been locked and not deleted for a reason. I'm not even talking about the fact of the comments, I'm talking about in the past the Accord picture thread would be either deleted or.... I locked this one so it could be re-opened at another time.

So no, there will NOT be another picture thread.

I'll tell you what, we'll compromise. You want new pictures posted of Accords and I don't want to constantly be deleting comment posts so here is what we'll do. Anyone thats has pictures of their Accord and wants them posted in the Accord Picture Thread can IM me and I will tell you how you can have your Accord pictures added to the thread. The thread will remain locked so I don't have to worry about comment posts.

I'll leave this open for now so we can discuss this if anyone wants.

I see no need for a new picture thread because no one can understand what no comments means. Unless I am convinced otherwise there will not be a new thread so this will stay open until a decision is made.

unfortunately I don't think that simple... I can't justify banning someone for that. Is it against the rules, yes. Is it a ban-able 1st offense? I don't feel it is.

Also, it wouldn't be a "select few", more about 80+. yes, that many. I have removed probably over 100 comments from that thread myself, not including any that -RedneckDave- may have removed. That is from the time I went through the entire thing and cleaned it up until I locked it, which was probably only 8 months.

Besides instantly banning someone does anyone have any other suggestions?

Putting "NO COMMENTS, PICTURES ONLY" in the title has been done before in other forums and didn't work so I don't think plastering it around more is going to do anything to help.

 

Well, not to add to the tasks of a moderator but, it looks like the only real solution would be a screening. As suggested, if someone wants a pic in the thread, send it to the mods. Keep the thread locked so you don't have 23143543 ppl quoting the same persons car ( that happens to have 23423432 pics in the post ) all just to give a friggin thumbs up.

I know it's childish but, it seems the only quick logical solution to the problem. You don't wanna ban people outrageously and nobody really gets " NO COMMENTS " sooo....the mod's just might have to play middle man and put all the pics up. That's of course if they really feel like going through all that ( that might be alot of im's for the day lol ).

O BTW isn't there a setting in the forum for only posting pictures only. No comments?

there would be more at first because it's been closed for a while but I think it would die down.

need i say more? I mean... when you go to view the Accord Picture Thread you expect to see pictures, not 1/2 chit chat and 1/2 pictures.

Does anyone recall how it looked before I went through the first time? Comments everywhere, quoted posts that contained 8+ pictures, etc. After I got finished removing all the comments and quotes, I believe I removed 10+ pages from a ~25 page thread. That means about 40-45% of the thread was comments, is that what you really want?

I have to side with TouringAccord and Dave on this one.

First, if you allow comments in an "official" picture thread, you end up scrolling through pages upon pages of posts with nothing more than a thumbs up, "nice ride", etc. Then you have people quoting everyone's pictures multiple times throughout the rest of the thread, sucking up bandwidth. This becomes more important for those who host their own pictures or use a picture-hosting site that has a maximum limit for bandwidth usage. I don't know about you, but if I scroll through the thread, I want to see the cars... not a million and one posts of "" and not the same picture of a car quoted over and over again.

Second, virtually no one can follow the rules of the picture thread. TouringAccord's estimate regarding the percentage of comments in the thread is conservative. Myself and a couple others used to PM other members who posted comments in the picture thread, and we asked them to voluntarily delete their posts... All in an effort to keep the thread from getting locked again.

Third, and I'll never understand why this happens but, you get people who try to bump the thread. It's stickied for crying out loud. It doesn't move from the top of the first page. I don't see why some people couldn't understand this.

And last, the picture thread was locked for a reason. All these recent attempts at a new thread were locked as well. Why would someone expect any more attempts to be different?

If people could actually read and follow the rules that are clearly in the very first post of the thread, it never would have been locked. But alas, for years now there's been attempts at keeping the official picture thread unlocked. It hasn't worked yet.
