My guess is sandblasting with very fine fine sand, and then polishing cream or 2500grit sandpaper brick. They come in really small pieces now, enough for you to grip with three fingers, so that you can get in the tight small places.

friend had his motor polished before, the shop used a big *** buffing wheel and different compounds.

believe it or not all <U>done by hand</U>...and i know for a fact I can get more shine out of it!
