Default Golf Cart towing question

I am looking to get a golf car to tow my civic up to the line and what not at the events. I have found a few cheap ones, but I was wondering for those of you that use them, are they single or twin cylinders? It seems like the older ones are single cylinder and the new ones are double. Last season I used my 250cc 4wheeler and that had no problem. Just not sure how the single cylinder golf cart will do b/c of it being driven by a centrifical clutch and no real gearing.

It will work fine, we have one here at the shop we use to tow cars around all the time.

Suburban here. If it will tow an enclosed trailer fully loaded including the car, it surely can tow the car, haha.

We use a 96 Ez-Go electric without any problems at all. Before we had the enclosed we didn't have a generator = no charge for the golf cart at a 2 day event. Gm came to the rescue with power. I would recommend getting a gas cart. Taking the initial hit on new batteries is going to run you about 350$ for 6 new batteries. That's also why I say go with a gas one.

Gas EZ-Go with the conversion on back to sit 2 extra people and you are good to go. Especially one with a roof for some shade and the headlights work great at night also. Ours goes the same speed with just 1 person and no car as loaded with 4 people towing our VW.
Also beats using a fullsize vehicle because they are easier to get around in and can snake in and out of tight spots in the lanes.

So those of you with gas carts are they single or twin cylinders? Also does the belt wear out faster b/c of the added strain of towing the car?

What about tracks like Epping where they have a small hill before you get to the track? Will the golf cart be able to pull a 2450lb car up that? I can't think of any other tracks like that.... was MIR like that too?

MIR's a straight shot from pits to staging. No hills, but many pot holes. haha.

Yeah I am worried about pulling it up inclines and what not. Also I usually end up helping pull tony's car when that breaks and that is over 3k. I found a twin cylinder for 200 bucks more so I might just go with that to be safe.

club car electric or gas. I sell gas club cars to pro-mod guys all the time. Havent had a problem yet. The trick is to get a key start cart not a pedal start.

Like Ryan said, 8ft bed to carry all kinds of stuff. AC on the hot day's for Dad. Remember MIR last Aug. 109 degess on the starting line.

And the best part is, you already have it and don't need to spend more money.

I really don't want to drive my truck around the pits which is what I used my 4 wheeler for a lot and is also what a lot of other people used it for.

How much fun is it walking from the end of the track at e-town to the staging lanes?

i used to help my friend with his outlaw 10.5 car that weighted 3260 with driver and we had ez-go gas golf cart single cyl, gas pedal start, belt drive and would tow that car and four people on the golf cart at the same time and it did great, and the some of the guys riding on it when towed the race weren't small guys. we had it for 5 years and towed the car alot. but when we weren't towing the car we would ride around the pits sometimes on the back tires only. fun stuff.

My cart was a single cylinder 2 stroke, it did fine. It was a little slow so go with the newer, more powerful ones if you can find one at the right price.

Well here are some good sites for those of you who purchase a golf cart.

Buggies Unlimited has really good prices on all their parts and also has a somewhat helpful forum.

http://server1.buggiesunlimite...x.php

For Performance upgrades check out Plowmans

http://www.plowmanscarts.com/shhhh.html

All in all the cart is super easy to work on just like a snowmobile. Even if you drop a valve into the motor you can get it back in the valve guide without taking off the head.

I am currently trying to figure out what clutch is on my cart and see if I can use one of my comet racing clutches from when I use to drag race snowmobiles. If not then I will just upgrade the spring for some more tq. I also have some other upgrades planned.

Check out my myspace page for all the pics of the cart.

It seems yamaha and ez-go are really popular. Keep looking on Craigslist because there are a few that are on there cheap and wouldn't talk much to make nice.
