Numbers for track days?
what does everyone use? i would like to get the solotime magnetics, but they don't recommend them for track days. they recommend the re-useable vinyl, but i've got atleast 20 events this year and if i buy anything, i want to make sure i'll be able to get plenty of use out of them. hence why i'd prefer magnetics. and since i will probably not be the same number every time, i don't want to run straight vinyl, non-reusable.
If you can tape the leading edges of the magnets down they are okay. I have used masking tape for a long time but then I put vinyl numbers on my quarter windows, but I don't drive it all the time.
Magnetic numbers work fine. Just put a couple pieces of tape on the leading edge. Leave the magnets out in the sun as soon as you get to the track so they are nice and plyable. If you are concerned about damaging paint make sure you keep your magnets clean and in a large envelope/folder when you are traveling to and from events and when they are being stored.

sweet. thanks for the tips guys. i'm guessing it's just so air doesnt get underneath and "lift" them off at speed.
i really wish i could run vinyl, but can't gaurantee the same number every time.

If you use a 3-digit vinyl number, chances are you can "X" out one of them
Also, less people use 3-digit numbers than 2-digit numbers. Still, the magnet thing with tape on the leading edge is probably your best bet.

i just went and had a set of numbers made that are peel on(clingy) window material. and can be removed if needed and replaced again when needed. i apply them to the inside rear side windows of my hatch. i had (3) sets made from numbers 0-9...so i can switch them for the diffrent number i run.

That is a good idea also. Just have to make sure there is no tint, workers dislike putting effort into reading numbers for obvious reasons

thanks! i opted for bright yellow with white out lines(no tint). i can relate to how bad visual of some peoples numbers can be. even when they drive blue cars and use blue painters tape for numbers on the doors
i just print out the biggest possible 1 digit number on a 8.5x11" paper, like "1" and "9" (which can be used for 6) and use masking tape on the side of the door. doesnt take long to put on. sure it uses masking tape (and ink/toner) but it gets the job done. just overlap the trailing edge of the front number/sheet over the next number and tape.
not the prettiest, but better than ghetto "blue tape" jobs.

i wouldn't mind doing the printed sheets, but water is always an issue. cause after all, this isn't nascar!!! what what!!!

i just ordered a single 12x24 magnetic sheet from a local signs shop, they'll be printing the same thing on both halves so i can just cut in half and have 2 12x12 sheets with number and class.
theyre charging me $30, i think thats a pretty good deal

Some track events give you vinyl numbers to use.
Another option is to buy a glass marker (sometimes called liquid chalk) and use it on the windows. (Much better than shoe polish, because it wipes off easily and it doesn't run if it gets wet.)

My wife has a vinyl business so we have a vinyl cutter, so I just bought some magnetic sheeting and made some myself. So far they haven't come off, but I've only done some autocross events and I took them on the highway once to see if they would come off. They seem pretty solid, the magnets are pretty strong.
Fedex/Kinkos will do a magnetic print for you. $15/sq. ft
Pretty expensive if you ask me, but you never have to buy it again.
Unless you get it stolen in the parking lot

For magnetic it's hard to beat MTG Graphics. The best customer service you could imagine. They made a few samples in different colors and fonts, emailed them to me for review and choice within one day, then made and shipped in less than 2 days. I highly recommend them. The price was very reasonable, including shipping to the West Coast.
