97 coupe rear tray plastic rattle fix????
I have a 97 civic coupe and there is a plastic rattle coming from the back of the car. I located the sound, its from the rear tray where the 6x9 speakers are. The plastic clip on the passenger side will not clip into the pilar and hence the costant rattle. Any suggestions as to get rid of the rattle without having to turn my stereo up???
well you can try changing the pieceor you can also try some dyno mat to keep it from ratting or just shove some cotton in the back till it muffles the sound

no.
what you want to do is dampen the noise with some type of thin foam (forgot what its called off the top of my head but they sell rolls of it at home depot). sound deadening products like dynamat will not help as much because all it does is add weight to change the resonant frequency, it would take rolls and rolls to make a plastic panel stop.
deadening (dynamat) makes the car more solid.
dampening (foam) makes the panels stop rattling.

If you do that it's going to be a huge pain (or impossible) to ever work on your rear speakers and some other parts.
You're going to need to remove your rear seats (at least the tops). There's clips on the bottom of the panel that you can pinch from underneath. You can either remove the side panels on the inside (next to the seats) or bend them out and try to make the rear deck clear between them. You'll have to unhook the rear seat lock too (this is a pain - mine doesn't work right now because we had to undo it and it didn't quite go back together right).
There might be a clip rolling around underneath or it might just not be clipped in or the clip could have gotten lost.
Then you're going to have to put it all back in and the clips probably won't want to all stay in. It's difficult to make the entire thing clip back in place all the way around. So you could end up with a worse rattle.

what do expect, its a civic after all.
but the sock does seem like a good idea, as long as its clean. lol</TD></TR></TABLE>
If you take care of it, it won't rattle.
I have one clip in the rear deck that's rattling and one clip in the passenger a pillar that's not clipped in right so sometimes it's rattles. Those are both capable of being fixed. Pains in the ***, but not expensive or anything. With those rattles gone, it will be like my car originally was. Rattle free.
Most of the Civics I've been in that seem like total **** boxes don't care about the little things like that, which slowly contribute to the car turning into a **** box.
