Default Civic Si alarm?

Hey guys,
I've had my Si for a month and a half now, and yesterday I decided to see what my alarm sounds like. In the manual, it says that when the alarm is set, trying to open the doors will set off the alarm (makes sense). But when I set my alarm, and pull on the door handles, nothing happens. No horn, no lights blinking. I tested to make sure they worked by holding the panic button, and it definitely works. Am I arming my alarm correctly? I always just hit the luck button twice (horn sounds). The manual also says that when the alarm is set correctly, the red light in my dash will start to blink (i think after like 15 seconds?), and it was blinking when I tried to make it go off. I would have looked in the book then, as to the proper alarm setting technique, but my phone rang and I lost focus, LOL. Also, I'd go out to my car now and get the book, but its under its cover, and I just feel lazy. Hoping someone is on, and feels like answering, because I'm sure it will slip my mind again.

if you locked/armed your car, how did you open it? ofcourse when you pull on the handle its not going to open.

im kinda lost here, if you used your key to unlock it from the outside i think that disables the alarm. however, if your inside your car and you arm it, and use your hands to unlock the latch and open the door the alarm will sound. try testing it by doing that.

exactly what he said.. if you were to break your window and open your car from the inside, the alarm would go off. its not going to go off from just playing with the handle unfort. so if you park somewhere with your windows down and someone opens up, its gonna go off. if someone smashes your window and opens up, again, its gonna go off. otherwise you're best off getting an aftermarket.

on a side note: i have a viper 791xv, it works very well for my personal situation. as i said, if you are looking for security, go aftermarket...

sounds like you're arming the alarm correctly.

sidenote: get a better alarm if you're looking for more security features.

You can kick the car all day and blow out all the windows and the alarm still won't go off. But the second the door is opened without disarming it the alarm will go off. It's not a full-scale alarm because there is no shock sensor or any other little fancy add ons. It's more like a theft deterrent/keyless entry alarm.

A true alarm will cost some money and can even add features like proximity sensors, tilt sensors, etc.

Do the same thing but with your windows down. Then unlock your door from the inside of the car (not the remote) and open the door. Alarm should go off...

Viper 5000 w/ 2-way pager FTW.

No alarm is fool-proof....but at least with a 2-way pager you'll know if someone's messing with your ride.

I'm sure. As a matter of fact I just tried it right now. I sat inside my car and armed it. Moved around alot and nothing happened. Not a sound. Your alarm shouldn't be going off from loud noises or interior movement.

Another thing the OP might have missed is that it takes a few seconds for the alarm to arm itself....even after you lock the doors. Watch the light that blinks near the speedo. It will blink about once a second for about 10 seconds or so.....then it will begin to blink at a noticeably slower rate....about once every 2.5 seconds. When it starts blinking at the slower rate then the alarm is armed. When it is armed....opening the door from the inside without disarming it....or popping the hood will set the alarm off.

If you try it while the light is still blinking at the faster rate then nothing will happen since the alarm isn't armed at that point.

I had one on my old car. Paid about $500 bucks installed....but that was with a proximity sensor which was an extra $50 bucks installed.

i never said the alarm went off i just said that the light went on and it beepd "not the horn) this may indicate that there is a "shock sensor"

Your car shouldn't make a sound. Like I said. I did the same thing you did (minus the race car thing). And not a sound came out. Not a single light came on. Nothing.

The car doesn't have a shock sensor...if you don't believe me feel free to pound on your front and back windows a few times.....see if anything happens. Don't hit the doors or anything cause these cars dent fairly easily.

Might be some sort of wiring problem. I just went to MY car after reading your post and yanked on the door handle....nothing.

^^Yeah I think that's something the dealer added because my 07 LX ddoesn't have that. I took at look at my buddys 07 EX and wondered why there was a green light flashing beneath his dash. He said he it was the alarm that came with the car. I guess some dealers decided to add that.

That's the "aftermarket" alarm the dealer installs. Mine is different looking though, the LED light is green. How much did you get charged? At the time I bought mine they wanted to sell it to me for $499!! Ridiculous! I ended up not paying for it but still got it installed since my brother in law installs them for the dealership.

Yep....definitely aftermarket. Does it have a shock sensor to....or is it just the motion sensor?
