The value of the car depends on what the buyer will pay. I dont think it will decrease the value (unless its a non OEM honda front) or increase its value.

if its done professionally with all the right parts...meaning ALL oem, the value will stay consistent if sold to someone who "likes" what you did. but, a dealer or an afficionado will of course de-value the car for the modifications. keep in mind that the jdm front is illegal in the us too. so, unless you don't ever intend to sell your r like me, then its okay...otherwise, you take the risk with the above factors.

the other possibilty is putting her back together with the us front if the time ever comes that you need too...but you spend even more money again...

Just like what is stated, the "blue-book" value may go down, but if you are selling to a private party, it all depends on the potential buyer, and what he/she thinks... If I were you, I would get the JDM conversion, it is worth every penny.

1. It's not legal
2. You can't undo it

somehow I just don't see the need...call me crazy.

nice avatar nfn...

i think you can find plenty of people willing to buy a JDM front end equipped R should you decide to sell it, so if value is your only concern then i woudlnt worry.

anytime you do a mod that is NOT OEM in the US, the bluebook value will go down.

#1 is partially false. jdm conversion is not illegal, its just the headlights are not DOT.

#2 ... sure you can undo it ... why cant you undo it, please explain this to me in detail.

Any mod you do to your car will decrease the value. Even if you sell it to a private party, they will know how modding a car decreases the value. You definitely won't get your money back from your mods.

are we talking blue book, or what he is likely to get?

in the case of what he can get for the car, he will certainly find that buyer who will pay more for a JDM front ITR than a USDM fron ITR. Now he wont get all the money that he put into the front end, but he will get some of it.

as far as blue book, of course it will go down, but the blue book doesnt apply in this situation unless he is trading it in

The term value is relative. If you find the right buyer they value may be extraordinarily high. To others it may seem worthless.

actually in reguards to the OEM thing... it will make the car stay at value if OE parts are used. Thats my main reason for getting an OE when I do it... My insurance covers all OE parts... deosnt say where they are from.. Just that it covers all OEM parts...

There's also that bumper support problem. I'm still not sure that removing the front bumper support is the right thing to do.
You just cut the USDM one to fit behind. very easy and keeps with DOT standards.

JDM front is the best thing you can do I mean a real enthusiast who wants a R would want it how it is in JAPAN. SO it would go up and if you sold it to say a RICER who just wants a R to have a R then tell him it is extra special.

it's funny to see how people here likes JDM so much, and people in japan are actually trying to change thier front end to USDM, people always want something that they dont get in the first place.

edit : just to add some points here, also have to look at the speed that asian country is driving compare to US. over there there is a lot traffic all the time people dont actually get to drive 60km like us everyday is, but in US we do drive a lot faster than them, so i dont think JDM bumer support is actaully works here, may be that;s another reason they change the front end when they import our car here.

Actually if you check out an NADA book at your local bookstore you will find a value for your R. Retail for my 2001 with 24k is $23,500 taken from the May issue.

personally yes i do like how JDM looks but the more i think the more i wouldnt do it, i've always see people over hong kong japan try to take off their badge for and one, but here we do the oppsite way. and just by looking at JDM's metal bump it scares me, if u compare it to USDM metal bump, u know "if" u have a front end accident u'd be dead if u have JDM conversion
You make some excellent points and i agree with you 100%. I've always wanted to get a JDM front end, but now that i just learned you won't have a front bumper support, I don't think i want it anymore . OT but are you Taiwanese?

A JDM nose doesn't speed the car up one iota, or make it perform any better in any way,
JDM HID Projector housing(!) Better light pattern for HID's = More forewarning = Safer.
