Default how do I know my 96 honda accord tranny is slipping?

Well my car has been acting up. its a 1996 honda accord ex vtec. (AUTO)

when i put it in drive, it feels like its n between a gear.. and its not shifting. i have to hit the gas alittle more for it to change gears. would this mean the tranny is slipping? i know my car has check engine light on. i read the code and its saying its mifireing 3rd cylinder... would this cause the problem? mab a sensor?

p.s... i havent changed the tranny oil since i got car. i only put 15,000 on it.. but not sure when it has been flushed. motor oil changed every 4000-5000.

any help would be great!!

thanks n advance.

Do you mean from the neutral to D4 switch, it doesn't move until you push the throttle?

You say you put 15k on it, how many original miles are on the car? Do you have a service record of when the tranny fluid was done if at all?

well not sure on records... and there is 236,000 on it. when i bought it , emmisions n alll were GREAT! passed all no problems. now... im afraid.

n yah.. when i put it on D4 it moves... but it shakes the car when im driving.. like its not shifting. kinda like a jerkage till i press gas little more.

i checked tranny oil n all... all is good.. tranny fluid nice n red... Full too.. so im not to sure.

would misfire cause jerkage n all.. says misfiring 3rd cylinder.

change the trans fluid. as the fluid gets older it gets thicker and will cause delay in gear engagement especially in cooler weather.

put some new plugs wire and cap on to fix the misfire

A misfire would definetely cause the car to jerk and hesitate. Do as YeuEmMaiMai says and see if that clears the misfire problem

yah new rotor as well I always replaced them as a set that's why i didn't mention it

a fouled or damaged plug can cause a misfire and so can oil in the tube

you will need to pull and inspect each plug

dude just change your trans fuild mine does the same at now 120,000 i mean that still really good for auto trans to last , but also it also depends if you've ever changed your trans too. anything over 140,000 on trans you should replace depending on how late the shifts are.

well have someone check but most any honda transmission over 140,000 miles is an instant just replace. even if you floor it quite few times

Do you remember which cylinder it was? And what plugs are you going with? If you mentioned it being fouled, was it with oil or fuel? The plug o-rings may need to be changed, it's like $20 from Advance or whatever and replaces the VC gasket and spark plug gaskets

BOSCH?! you bastard. NGK or nothing fooooo! copper bosch plugs at my work (autozone) are $1.89, for 20 cents more you could've got OEM NGKs @ $2.09. and at other auto places, NGKs can be had for under $2.
