LS 5th gear in ITR tranny
I have an 01 ITR tranny bolted to a stock b18b and want a longer 5th gear for freeway driving. Is it possible to swap in an LS 5th gear for lower RPM's on the freeway? Will it actually drop the RPM's and work?
Prices taken from acuraparts247.com
23461-P80-000 LS 5th gear counter-shaft $44.94
23581-P80-000 LS 5th gear main-shaft $71.66

While the tranny is apart I strongly suggest replacing the 5 main sealed bearings that go on the ends of the main and countershafts.
Three of these bearings will need to be pulled off to access the 5th gear anyways, so plan on at the very least doing those. there are two stacked on top of each other at the top/end of the countershaft just under the stake nut, and the other on the end of the mainashaft - 5th gear sits directly below these bearings.
I installed a GS-R 5th gear into my old ITR tranny with ATS 4.929FD to lower the 5th gear cruising back to stock ITR-like ratios.

just gotta ask what is your cruising rpm for XXX speed? looking to do a gsr 5th gear with the 4.785 in my ys1 and yea an obx lsd too b/c the ring gear won't fit the factory diff (open anyways)
I have a GS-R 5th with 4.785 final drive.

What wheel/tire size? That means as much as FD ratio.

That seems kind of low. With that fifth gear and final drive, you have similar overall gearing to a B16A transmission. And with a B16A transmission, fifth gear revs are quite a bit higher than this.

so what would i have to buy??? can someone list all the parts that i will need to swap the ls fifth in my b16 tranny. gonna do the swap in a couple weeks
It was always roughly the same no matter what overall wheel size I was using. I'm on 205/50R-15 right now and I use 215/45R-16 in the summer.
I just switched to a LS 5th gear over the weekend, so 5th gear does about 350rpm lower than the GS-R 5th gear I had.
A GS-R 5th with 4.785 final drive gives you a slightly lower overall ratio than a B16 transmission, if you're comparing it to a .875 5th gear ratio. It's close, but not the same. A B16 with a .848 gear ratio would be lower in rpm.
I think I like the GS-R gearing better at this point. I still haven't gotten used to it.

i got a cable j1 tranny and im gonna add a 4.9 mfactory final drive and a ls 5th gear. should i only have to replace just the 1 gear and not the gear with the sleeve/synro
is this mod only for the B16 Cable? b/c i have a b16 hyrdo out of a 00 civic si, and looking to do the ls 5th gear but at the sametime would it be the correct gear ratio for a JDM 4.7 final drive? i would also be installing a jdm LSD...
anyone?
i know the 00 si tranny(4.4fd) is pretty close to the (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) JDM ITR gear ratio except for the last 2 gears and the 4.7 fd.
