Default Swaping Gauge clusters (Gauge w/out tach->Gauge w/ tach)

i have a 89 Honda civic dx (which does not have a tach in its gauge cluster, and so i decided to swap my gauge with one that does have a tach. I bought a 88-89 CRX gauge cluster w/ tach at the junkyard (with all it's cables). When i got home and removed the DX cluster, i saw that the pattern in which the cables were connected are different to the pattern of the CRX's cables, (and the wire colors are placed differently on the connectors. So what i did, i unplugged the connectors and just switched the clusters, but almost nothing was working properly (besides the Lights on the cluster). I did some research that same day and i read that it's "plug and play", but it seems to not work like that. I did some more research and I read that you need to switch some of the wires around. I did exactly to what it said and only i few things worked. I know the swap can be done, but i need to know how to make it work. Can anyone tell me what i have to do to make everything function? This is my project car, and I'm sorta new to swapping, but i want to learn. Please, someone help me!!!

So as long as I get a '90-'91 cluster w/tach, it should plug right in to my '90 EF?

I put them in that exact same order, but only about a few things worked (the gauge lights, the gauge lights adjustment, battery light, Fuel gauge, Left signal light, Right signal light, High Beams and the driver's seatbelt {the only problem with it is that when i clip the seatbelt, the light doesn't turn off}). I don't have any pictures of the gauge cluster at the moment but i'll put some pictures up tomorrow. Also...there is 3 extra wires that the gauge cluster came with but I'm not sure what they do nor where they go.
