Looking for true *BLUE* bulbs for my standard headlights
I'm looking for a pair of really blue-looking 9006 headlight bulbs (I have standard headlights in my '98 Accord). I had a pair in 2002, but they blew out within a year, and I followed up by buying a pair of Euro Dezigns bulbs. They blow out once a year, I get a new pair from the warranty, life goes on. However, although the ED bulbs look very nice, classy, and are bright white (not HID white or anything, they are just Xenon bulbs after all), I much preferred the blue look of the bulbs I had purchased back in '02 and am looking to find another pair. I don't care about the brand, and want the cost to remain less than $30 (including shipping if possible).
I've tried ebay-bulbs in the middle, and none of them seem to actually be blue (though they love to claim that, they always turn out to be white, usually shoddier than the EDezigns). Also, the Sylvania brand sold in stores as "Cool Blue" or whatever are NOT blue, they are actually much more dull than the EDezigns bulbs (though I suspect they might last longer). That part is just annoying because Sylvania is a MAJOR bulbs manufacturer and it sucks that they getting away with lying like that. Cool blue, my ***. Anyhow that's my bulb story and my question remains: can anyone point me to standard-headlight bulbs that cost less than $30 that are *ACTUALLY BLUE*?
Thanks a lot in advance!!!!!!

Quick point - The EuroDezigns warranty charges $7 for a pair of replacement bulbs. Over the past few years, I have spent less than $60 on bulbs, and the number is only that high because I bought the stupid Sylvania bulbs because they claimed to be blue and were from a brand I (no longer) trust. Also, at the moment, I unfortunately can't afford to spend more than $30 on bulbs. Based on my estimates of HID kits, etc. I can't afford those right now.
P.S. I incorrectly posted this in the one of the more general forums and someone suggested that I was asking a lot for my money, but I honestly don't think so, because I was able to purchase exactly what I am looking for, for less than $30 on ebay in 2002 (I don't have any info about that transaction anymore, so I can't try to get in touch with the same seller). All I'm looking for are standard-style Xenon bulbs (non-HID) that have the right cominbation of intensity/tint to look blue instead of white - the ED bulbs I have are 8500k and the blues I had before were lower than that, so it seems to me like it would be a downgrade in intensity (which for my personal tastes is a well-worth it trade for the color).

Blue light is the worst choice for headlight bulbs as they are the worst in the entire color spectrum and you won't see anything.
And Xenon is another term for HID.
The term you are looking to use is halogen.
And you can find all sorts of blue bulbs on ebay less than $30.

I'm not sure about this, as I remember the blue headlights I had in the past being perfectly functional in terms of providing adequate light at night.
And Xenon is another term for HID. The term you are looking to use is halogen.
Apologize for the confusion, it's just that Euro Dezigns (and many others) advertise their bulbs as containing Xenon gas. You are probably right, let's stick to the term "halogen" to describe what I want.
And you can find all sorts of blue bulbs on ebay less than $30.
The problem with buying them on ebay is that sellers (especially international ones) are very prone to tossing out descriptions such as "white" and "blue" when 50% of them are bulbs just barely brighter than standard non-halogen non-HID bulbs. The majority of them definitely don't look blue, and I unfortunately can't go buying several pairs of bulbs right now in an effort to find the right pair.
Actually, I was hoping someone here might have bulbs similar to the ones I was requesting and could point out where to get them. Thanks for your post!

Sylvania is not lying at all, so they are not getting away with anything. How long have you trusted Sylvania anyway?

Cool Blue
Upgrade to Cool Blue and get a whiter light.
The white light of Cool Blue does more than help cars look good; its higher color temperature delivers improved nighttime visibility, helping drivers see better. SYLVANIA uses advanced coating technology to achieve a distinct look and to heighten the sensation of night driving with 100% street legal illumination.
</TD></TR></TABLE>
Common sense, Cool Blues have a light blue tint, did you really expect them to have a lot of blue hues in the lighting? The purpose of Cool Blue bulbs is to give off light that is whiter than stock.
Anyways, I saw some bulbs with blue tint that were darker than Cool Blues going for $23.99 at a Honda dealership. The brand is called Halo, and they have 3 different bulbs at that price: Purple White, Super White, and Super Yellow. The Platinum White bulbs were priced higher. Their site is http://www.haloautomotive.com, and the Super White bulbs were the ones with the dark blue tint. Did a quick research on them and it appears they are sold in dealerships. Scion owners have mentioned them going for $29.99 at Scion dealerships. You should check out your local Honda or Scion dealerships, it's possible they may carry that brand of bulbs.
The Super Whites are rated at 4300k so they might not have the amount of blue you're looking for, but they will definitely give out more usable light than the 8500k Euro Dezigns bulbs you currently have.

I guess it also depends on the bulb maker. I had a set of blue Nokya bulbs in my 91 accord. Quite a few times I looked at my dad, and asked..."are my lights on?" I turned my lights on and off and they were already turned on....after that, out they went and I put stockers back in..

I've had several sets of bulbs and never found the exact blue I was looking for. Right now I'm running Nokya Arctic Purples with upgraded wiring in my Honda and Farenheit 80/100watt bulbs in my truck. I previously had Farenheit stock wattage, Nokya Arctic Whites, Eurolite Fusions, Eurolite Crystals, and Eurolite Super Plasma's. I for some reason like headlights.
The Nokya Arctic purples aren't really blue at all and I wouldn't recommend them. They looked great when I first got them a pinkish purpleish that lit up the whole road purple. You could still see okay with them or atleast I could though but after about a week if that long they started loosing their color. Now they are basically about a pure white. I loved these at first but they only lasted about a week before they lost their color. For this I wouldn't recommend these.
Next is the Nokya Arctic Whites which I can't comment on how they would look after a week as I only had them for a few days. I put a set in my truck and liked the color quite a bit. They were white with some blue to them. These are probably the bluest bulbs I've tried. I ended up taking them back because they lit up the road the same color as the road so I had a lot of trouble seeing. I wouldn't recommend these due to the fact that they were hard to see with but if you just are looking for the color these looked good. The thing that worries me about this is the fact that the Purple ones lost their color so I'm afraid these would since I didn't have them even a week.
Next is the Farenheits. So far these are probably my favorite bulbs I've tried. The stock wattage ones weren't much of a difference between them and stock although they seemed a tad whiter and a tad brighter. They were white with maybe a slight hint of yellow still although not quite as much as stock. These were called super whites although they still had a hint of yellow. They seemed brighter than stock and I liked them just wasn't impressed at all with the color. The high wattage ones I now have in my truck are totally diff. They are a crystal white with some blue to them. I'd say these are probably the closest to the Nokya's color I've had. The thing with these and the Eurolites were the same they seem blue to me when I first turn them on but after they are on for a while they seem to turn to more of a bright white. I don't know if I'm just imagining that or if they really do that. They just seem to have more blue when I first turn them on. They do have some blue to them though and aren't yellow at all. I'd say whiteish blue. Make sure you get the high wattage ones and upgrade your wiring if you want color. With these I don't know if they are quite as good as stock but they seem to be almost as good and I like the color they light up the road a lot better. I'm pretty impressed with these. Overall I like this lights and if I get another set of the ones I've tried this will probably be the ones. I paid $25 for these from a local shop although you can find them for under $15 online with shipping.
Next is the Eurolite Crystals. A friend had the high wattage version and I liked the look. I bought a set only got the stock wattage ones. I liked them and they had some blue to them. They were really white with a hint of blue. These weren't much worse than stock if any either. I could see fine with them and they looked decent. They were just a pure white with a hint of blue. Not as much as the farenheits. These seem more of a bright super white the Farenheits have more blue to them. With these I liked them and ran them for about 4 months but after seeing on Car domain that the Fusions were rated at 1000k more I decided to sell these and try those.
I put the Fusions in and honestly couldn't tell a difference between these and the Crystals. I did do the 9005 conversion on these though so they may have been slightly brighter. I liked them and they seemed to be a little blue. Like I said about the Farenheits though to me it seemed like they were pretty blue when first turned on then turned into a bright white after being on for a while. The Farenheits still had more color. Overall though I liked these bulbs and would recommend them. I still have them in my high beams. I ran the 9005 conversion low beams for probably 2 years until one burnt out. They are a lot harder to find now than they used to be.
Last but not least I tried the Eurolite Super Plasma's. This is probably the first aftermarket bulb I've tried. They weren't really blue at all as most DOT approved bulbs are. They were whiter than stock but not really blue at all just mostly white. I wasn't super impressed with the color but it was okay. These did to me seem brighter than the stock lights. I liked these until one burnt out in a bout 2 months the other going shortly after. I called and got another set under warranty thinking that I just got a bad set. Well what do you know the 2nd set burnt out again after about 2 months. I gave up on them after this and decided they weren't worth it. The high beams did last me about 2 years though. I wouldn't recommend these purely for this reason. When a high beam finally gave up I ordered a new set for the high beams and the new ones didn't seem to have as much purple coating on them and when I put them in they didn't seem to light up as white as the first set. They had a little yellow to them and didn't seem as bright to me either. I didn't use them long and they are now in my car or tool box as spares. I don't know if they changed the design or it was just a bad set or what.
Overall my favorite of the bulbs I've used are the Farenheit high wattage bulbs they have the most blue I've used that you can still see with. The Nokya's had slightly more but the light output was horrible and I don't know how long the color would have lasted.
I saw someone just tonight and they had really blue bulbs that lit up the road even bluer than mine. They were a bright blue although it wasn't a huge difference on the road from mine it did seem like one although maybe it was the angle I was at. These Farenheits do have a bit of blue to them but also some white. I'd say half and half. I wondered what kind of bulbs that car had as I've seen bulbs like that but haven't been able to find them.
A friend has some Hyper whites I don't know the brand in his car and they seem about like my Eurolite Crystals or Fusions. I'm kind of thinking they are the Euro Designs but I'm not 100% positive.

I currenty am running the Nokya Arctic White Stage 2 bulbs in my civic and my grand prix, and let me tell you, if you want a really deep blue, go with these. Although i will caution you, the light output sucks!! In bad weather, rain or snow, you cant really see even with the brights, but if you really want that blue color, then go with these. They are pretty cheap as well. I got my set for my civic for 32 dollars and the ones for my grand prix for 26. So look into them.

I agree for the few days I had them the light output was really bad.
Did they lose any color after a week or so of use? Thats why I'm weary of them as my Arctic Purples lost their purple after a week or so. I didn't have the Arctic whites long enough to see if they did that.

Actually, the pair in my civic has been in there for about 8 months now and they are as blue as can be. But my grand prix is another story. After 2 weeks the blue went away and its just white. But not a good white, its not even bright. It just sucks. I guess if you want to try them go ahead. Maybe you'll be lucky and they will last or just crap out.
