Default why won't a b20 tranny work

someone explain why a b20 tranny wont work in a b20 swap (into a civic etc). i think there are some b20 non-awd 5 speed trannys out there. it just seems like a waste cause the gearing is almost like b16s.

Is it almost the same? If it is, I don't know why it wouldn't, because to all those I've been recommending the B20Z to, I also recommend a B16 trans. Doesn't it bolt up the same way? What are the ratios of the CRV FWD model?

I checked their ratios at the dealership and they are very good but....
Didnt all the CRV's have auto trannies? I think that's why you never hear about people using them in swaps...

Honda offered a manual tranny in the 99-01 models, when it added the B20Z.

Probably because it's easier to find a B16/18 tranny than a manual B20 tranny. Most places that sell the B20's only sell the longblocks for some reason. I got my B20 from a friend for a steal, but, of course, no tranny. Someday when I have time and/or money, i'd like to try to graft a CRV AWD drivetrain to a Civic hatch. That would be fun....
