the car is a 1990 Ex 5spd

this morning i turned it on and it sounded like there was a grinding noise coming from where the belt is, but i cant tell. i thought it was the clutch reservoir or something because i let my friend drive it and he was burning the clutch pretty bad. anyways, any ideas?

What belt did you hear it coming from? AC/Fan belt, timing belt, alt belt? Is the car running smoothly?

 

sorry..it was the timing belt
well she runs fine, but it just sounds like its going to die on me

 

check your powersteering fluid level.. it will whirl or grind if its low.

 

ok...just checked it..it was low so i put some in and started the car but it started pouring out, did i put too much in?

 

did you have the cap off the resivor?

 

no, i put it on and then started it

 

did it come out the top or somewhere else?

 

yea it was foaming out of the top and i did a quick search and it could possibly be that my pump is bad.

 

yes unless you filled it way too much. There are lines on the resivoir to show high and low. if its inbetween those then yes, you have other problems. if it was above it its not a problem, so check and refill if you need to.

 

well i drove it around and it isnt foaming anymore, but its still making that grinding/whirling noise

 

did you check the level again?

 

yea..its fine right now
could it be a spun bearing?

 

doubtful. unless your car is really sluggish and running like crap.

 

runs same as usual..
could it just be that my belt is loose?

 

the ps will puke fluid if it has air in it. turn the wheel lock to lock several times and always add ps fluid with it running. once the air is out it should return to normal.

 

ok..well this morning it did the same thing, but in the afternoon it didnt leak at all.
i even turned it on and rotate the wheel side to side, but still has the whirling noise
