Default My new clutch lasted 350 miles...pictures

I bought an xtd stage 4 6 puck unsprung clutch. I drove 350 miles and the trans locked in 2nd gear before blowing up ten minutes later. These pictures sho why it wasnt disengaging

I got hardcore and broke out my dial caliper and measured my disk against another xtd disk that disengaged fine...they were .002" apart in thickness which leads me to believe that the pressure plate has too much meat on it.

Did you break the clutch in properly or did you take it out and dog it?

What did you torque the pressure plate bolts to?

I noticed my clutch feels likes it sticks. My friends did the same. We found the pilot bearing provided was a POS and was toasted. Replaced it and been fine since. Not sure if that helps but thought I would share

I think he's showing that with the PP out, the fingers slope up toward the center like they're supposed to, and once installed, they lay flat which might indicate an issue. At least that's what it looked like to me.

Yeah because one person who didn't give ANY details as to how they installed it or how they broke it in. Wise decision.

That's what I saw. That and some really nice shots of a concrete floor. Nice

In the last pic at the bottom right, it looks like the OP was so pissed off he started hacking wires

My friend installed the clutch correctly and with proper spec. It was babied for the entirety of its use in its 350 mile lifespan until one night it would not go into gear properly. Thinking it was a trans problem, we removed the trans to surprisingly find that it was the clutch at fault. The splines were warped inward, not allowing the clutch to disengage properly. 2 other friends with the same brand clutch had the same problem. I thought XTD clutches had a good rep for an ebay brand, but maybe i was wrong.

Edit: Anyone else have any experience with XTD clutches?

well if your trans locked up, it probably has nothing to do with the clutch or disk itself. When a clutch is fully enagaged...it's fully engaged, right?

You cant get any more engaged than fully engaged. You cant lock up the whole trans with the clutch since all the clutch does is connect the ROTATING assembly of the engine to the ROTATING assembly of the trans. If the rotating assembly locked up...the connection has nothing to do with it. When your clutch is fully engaged...the trans and engine still rotate normally. So...

Maybe, during removal/install, the trans was leaned on the input shaft. Maybe your trans was on it's last leg and you didn't really know it.

Unless you're talking about "locked up" as in the trans was still rolling and operating normally...but the car wouldn't come out of gear.

Do you mean locked up as in the trans tried to lock up the wheels in 2nd gear? Or do you mean locked up as in the trans was stuck in 2nd, but still rolled and operated normal besides that?

+ is that even a quality clutch? Their prices tell otherwise. Why the freak would you have an unsprung clutch? Is this just a race car and not a street car? It looks like a stock D series....is it turbo and pushing out huge power?

That's not entirely true.

I've got an Unorthodox Racing unsprung Kevlar clutch & a 7lbs Fidanza flywheel.

Other than occasional stalling when in neutral at lights it's not much different than stock.

Granted the Unorthodox clutch was designed to feel like a stock clutch. Only thing I don't like is the pressure plate, I feel it should have a stiffer one.

I think someone ragged on a six puck and it bit them in the *** after it chewed up and spit out their transmission. But thats just my opinion.

??

Well, besides the fits of rage and reduced **** size, taking steriods is not much different from proper nutrition.

The stalling at lights is due to the flywheel when I'm coasting up to a light, not the clutch.

As for the driveability of the clutch- it's nearly identical to a stock clutch.

jerky clutch engagement/stalling at a stop would lead me to think it DOESN'T behave like stock clutch
