new to the honda civic.. needing information and hints
I'm new to my civic. Have only had it for a day and a half now but wanted to start getting as much information together on what I can feasibly pull out of the engine without popping it. Natural Aspiration.
First step for me would be ECU. I don't want something that's going to kill my car or the gas mileage. However, I do want something that will give me a nice punch. Could you post web-links you may have or tell me brand names and model specifications for the upgrade.
TIA.

nice lookin car his a web site devoted to that car http://www.2k1civic.com have info on do it yourself and who is making what parts for your car hope to see your car in the future bad ***.O yeah they already have a bit of parts for your car
i'd start with a cold air intake or short ram intake. i didn't think it would do that much, but when i put mine on, i immediately noticed an increase in torque. another cool thing was that i didn't know the SOHC VTEC's had a change in engine noise when VTEC engages. the intake definitely made it evident.
a header would also give you an increase in torque.
exhaust would give you more top end.
basic bolt-on's are always a good place to start.

Thanks for the tips.. and the website also. Anyone have any general idea's of what kind of horsepower this vtec engine will put out with simple bolt on mod's?
Once again thanks!

Short Ram Intake= 0-2 hp (Increases throttle response, cool sound)
Exhaust= Really general here but, I'd say a 5-7 hp jump (maybe more depending on the exhaust.
Header= About 3-5 hp
Again these are VERY rough estimates. But changing the way air enters and exits the engine generally are pretty safe and can make a car more fun to drive. I'd expect getting another 8-12whp, that's a difference you can feel pretty much throughout the whole RPM band. A different cam will compliment these bolt-ons and probably increase horsepower even more.
Tuned ECU's on hondas don't give as much power as tuned ECU's for other makes. Your car is already designed to the max for good milage and civil manners. Your going to have to change alot of that before a tuned ECU will net you any type of power that would be worth the price.
A safe bet for me, if i had a 2k1 civic, would be to start looking into K-series swaps. It's still very early, but I think it would be worth it.

don't listen to these peple telling you to get i/h/etc, etc....wait to see what swaps will become available, dohc is a better/cheaper racing platform than sohc, just my two cents
if i were you, i wouldn't start ripping things (ie. swap) apart considering that you just got it........jsut start with the basic bolt-ons that everyone is talkin bout

i agree about not tearing into a car too much right now, but he didnt say b or h series swap. he said k, thats what would have to be done to be "easy". rsx type s or r (if you can get it).
Thanks again guys. I agree with the swaps. I don't know how into it I would be right at first. It's brand new. I do know that I am going to get at least a good 2k in mileage on it before I start doing bolt-on's. I would like to keep the vehicle as close as stock as possible but still pull some performance from the vehicle.
Anyone familiar with what happens to warranty when you start bolting things on?

Yea, I would focus on the suspension, wheels/tires, brakes, etc. while the 7th gen part market opens up a bit more. Plus you might as well enjoy the brand new car for awhile yet.
ur not going to start seeing mods to these cars for about two years. i mean most people are still on leasing deals/ loans. in a year or two u'll start to see alot of mods/turbo's being slapped on these cars. personally i'd wait till then.

definately the suspension... wheels and tires too. I just wanted to try to pull a little more power out of the engine withough tearing the car apart.
Anyone have any idea what happens to warranty if I do put in intake, headers and exhaust?
